Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Bombs, On Pace For One Of Company’s Worst Box Office Showings

After years of build-up and hundreds of millions of dollars spent on promotion, Disney’s “Snow White” live-action remake starring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler is on pace for one of the company’s worst box office offerings ever.

As of Friday, the remake of the 1937 classic had raked in just $15.5 million across 4,200 North American theaters, including $3.5 million from Thursday night’s previews, Deadline reported. Overall, the film is on pace for just $45 million in sales over its opening weekend, an astonishingly low figure considering its massive budget.

As of this report, “Snow White” is on pace with Disney’s live-action “Dumbo” remake that was released in 2019. The film, which was directed by Tim Burton, was a certified box office bomb that pulled in $46 million over its opening weekend. Costs for “Dumbo” topped out at $170 million, however, while “Snow White” cost $270 million after multiple reshoots and a massive marketing campaign that fizzled out early.

Disney will be holding out hope that the latest film can top December’s live-action “Mufasa: The Lion King” remake, which pulled in just $35.4 million in December after another aggressive marketing campaign.

Disney has changed every single solitary characteristic of the 'Snow White' story. What they have produced has nothing at all related to the 'Snow White' story. The only thing about it that resembles 'Snow White' is the title of the show. Other than that what Disney calls 'Snow White' has nothing to do with 'Snow White'.

What Disney obviously does not understand is that it is not possible to slap the title "Snow White" on a WOKE production of "The Wiz" intending to bait-and-switch people to come to see it.

In modern times with ubiquitous social media everywhere, this does not work.

I listened to bits of the soundtrack. Disney’s greatest downfall is its lack of songwriting talent. The Walt Disney era is remembered so fondly this reason, even as his animated films and musicals age. The “renaissance” years captured this again, but the past 25 years is replete with unimaginative story lines and horrible pop music.

Rachel seems like she would be an unpleasant person in real life. The only way Snow White could have been more egregiously miscast is if they hired Jada Pinkett Smith.

Disney is changing "The Lion King"??? That is one of my all time Disney favorites! Saw it a couple of times.

I think Disney needs to concentrate on making another 'classic' without all the social and political correctness.

The fact is, Disney could have made a new movie of their own, with their own title and their own plotline. They did not do this because Leftist woke idiots feel an insatiable urge to correct mistakes of the past. Leftists HATE the fact that everybody LOVES the original Snow White movie. So, they had to correct it by making more inline with Leftist values (which are demented).

The point is, why didn't Disney just make a new movie? Because a new movie was never the point. The point was always to piss on and pervert the original. They cannot leave excellence alone. Artistic excellence like Snow White, like Lion King, like The Jungle Book, drives them crazy because THEY did not create them. So they try to "fix" them in their own image. This is how it should have been done. And it always fails.

It is a 'fairy tale' dumbass! It is not supposed to reflect their version of reality.

But Disney does not care if everyone of their so-called 'remakes' fail. The point is to desecrate the original regardless of how much money they lose. And they will do it again and again and again. Because Disney has become an 'activist organization'. Obviously, Disney is no longer in business to "make money". Disney exists today solely to fanatically push the Leftist 'woke' agenda no matter how much it costs them.

Why not just make new movies? Why do they have the irrational obsession to piss on the classics by trying to 'correct' them?

I believe Disney can recoup their losses on 'Snow White' by releasing a follow up documentary that lets us see the production meetings where all the creative decisions were made. I do not believe there is a single person alive who would not pay to see that.

I just think it's a cryin' darn shame that companies can't come up with new ideas. They, instead, "remake" classics and ruin them. It's not just Disney, it seems to be an industry wide problem.

I seem to remember the Disney buried 'Song of the South' in a vault somewhere in a cave in a volcano, guarded around the clock by Indiana Jones style booby traps.

Song of the South movie, represents the exact diametric opposite of everything Disney pushes today. It is happy, uplifting, and cheerful. Disney will never allow it to be released ever again or even anything related to it. Disney is trying to 'disappear' the film from history. To think, Disney once made a movie (Night Crossing) about a family escaping communist East Germany to freedom.... They could remake it I guess now with methed-out transexuals (w/adopted abused kids in tow) from Austin, TX. Weirdos stuck trying to escape to utopia Disney-land California via a China-owned spy balloon. Scenes could include almost making it but having trouble landing because of a man-made climate change forest fire.

I have to agree @roamer_1 . Being a True Grit/John Wayne purist I resisted seeing the remake. I was very surprised a very happy. It was really good.

I used to sit thru the whole darn movie (original) just to see Rooster put the reins in his teeth with all guns blazing!

(Caution, kids, do not try this at home.)
