The US' Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reportedly begun carrying out lie detector tests on employees, sources have claimed.

The exams, known formally as polygraph tests, are set to be performed on US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) staff after alleged leaks to the media disrupted immigration enforcement operations in Colorado and California over the past month, claim Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House 'border czar' Tom Homan. Noem said the reported leaks had had "deleterious effects" on border and interior immigration enforcement.

It is claimed the leaks revealed the cities where US Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE) were planning to carry out operations, leading to lower arrest numbers than expected. A spokesperson for the department, Tricia McLaughlin, told Bloomberg Government in an email: "DHS is a national security agency. As such, it should and will polygraph personnel."
