Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called his meeting at the White House last week "regrettable" on Tuesday and said he is ready to pursue peace under President Donald Trump's leadership.

Zelenskyy made the concession in a lengthy statement posted to social media on Tuesday, saying Ukraine "is ready to come to the negotiating table." He added that last week's meeting "did not go the way it was supposed to be," and he said "it is time to make things right."

"My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts," Zelenskyy wrote.

"We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal," he added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made a striking concession, pledging to sign a U.S. minerals and security agreement at “any time and in any convenient format”—a change that comes just hours before President Donald Trump is set to deliver his State of the Union address. The timing suggests a possible breakthrough announcement before Trump’s speech Tuesday night.

In a social media statement early Tuesday, Zelenskyy struck a markedly different tone, signaling Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate and expressing his gratitude for Trump’s past support. “None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer,” he wrote.

“Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.” Zelenskyy also acknowledged the tense meeting at the White House last Friday, where he clashed with Trump and Senator J.D. Vance over continued U.S. military and financial aid to Ukraine.

“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive,” Zelenskyy added.

The abrupt shift comes after a contentious Oval Office meeting between Trump, Vance, and Zelenskyy last week, where Trump’s team signaled frustration with Ukraine’s continued demands for U.S. aid. Zelenskyy, in Washington to secure additional military support, found himself facing tough scrutiny from Trump and Vance, who challenged his approach.

If he is serious, he needs to sign the docs, properly witnessed, and returned by diplomatic courier. President Trump can then decide what to do with it. No more White House or Oval Office pomp.

White House says Ukraine weapons and intel pause will lift when Russia talks set

Why it matters: The U.S. decision to pause military aid is increasing pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to move toward negotiations with Russia to end the war.

Behind the scenes: One U.S. source with knowledge of the details said the suspension of intelligence sharing mostly focuses on information that could help Ukraine conduct attacks inside Russian territory.

    A second source close to the Ukrainian government said the intelligence-sharing pause was the key issue that convinced Zelensky to put out a statement on Tuesday expressing regret for his public spat with President Trump and committing to peace talks.

    The source said that while Ukraine could have managed for quite some time without U.S. weapons, the suspension of intelligence sharing has immediate negative effect on the Ukrainian army's operations.

What they're saying: CIA director John Ratcliffe confirmed in an interview on Fox Business that Trump ordered a pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

    "President Trump had a real question about whether President Zelensky is committed to a peace process. He said let's pause. I want to give you a chance to think about this, and you saw the response, President Zelensky put out a statement saying I am ready for peace," Ratcliffe said.

    He added that the pause on weapons supply and intelligence "will go away and we will work with Ukraine shoulder to shoulder as we have to push back on the aggression that is there but to put the world at a better place for this peace negotiations to move forward.

I don't think minerals were actually the issue. This was to get a foothold into Ukraine to have a declared American interest and Zelenskyy was too stupid to figure that out.
