President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, with Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) making the announcement on X Monday morning. “Today I will nominate @realDonaldTrump for the Nobel Peace Prize. No one deserves it more,” Issa wrote in a post that quickly gained traction online.

The decision to nominate Trump follows a tense meeting last week in which he reportedly asked Zelenskyy to leave the Oval Office after a fiery exchange over U.S. military aid. Trump later stated that Zelenskyy had “disrespected” the United States and suggested that Ukraine was using America’s involvement as leverage rather than genuinely seeking peace.

Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize will likely serve as a symbolic nod to his non-interventionist stance, particularly as his campaign for a second term continues to emphasize an “America First” approach.

A spokesperson for Issa also highlighted Trump’s endeavors to foster peace in the Middle East. “Congressman Issa recently led a Congressional delegation to four Middle East nations—he observed first-hand and from several heads of state that the spirit of peace and moving away from conflict is real and multilateral,” said Jonathan Wilcox, Issa’s deputy chief of staff and communications director, in remarks to The Hill.

Wilcox added, “From the time of his election and after being sworn in, President Trump has inspired and promoted the cause of peace—and in a way we have not heard in many years. His advocacy is an aspiration of a world without war, and we are seeing this come into focus in several regions of the world today – not just one.”

Trump has worked hard to end conflict in the world.  He is certainly deserving of recognition by the Nobel folks, but I doubt they will give it to him, for they all have TDS.

Trump has worked to bring peace to the Middle East, but if he rescues Putin (and the signs are already pointing that way), that will sow the seeds for WWIII ... and that won't be deserving of a Peace Prize

Oh, but there's a tradition of giving the Nobel Peace Prize to people who secured a temporary peace that set up a subsequent war.

Congressional Republicans will do anything and everything for Trump, except their job - pass a (preferrably) balanced budget on time.

Which renders all argument moot.

The Nobel Peace Prize as an accolade has no real value. It is very provable that it is nothing more than a political chip. Why would anyone care about it anymore?

Which is another point to make about this “nomination”.  It’s made by the usual suspects, a Republican Congressman.  Big deal.  Apparently any 1 of us can make a nomination.  So I guess that’s not much to get excited about.

Iran was in deep economic trouble until Biden came along. This could well be a repeat performance letting Russia recover from severe economic destress from a war they started.

When Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize, for merely getting elected, it lost all significance to me. 

If Trump wins one, that is great.  But it does not matter much.  I think President Trump has proven clearly his anti war stance.  If he can get Putin and Zelensky to agree to end the war between their countries, that is a good thing.  And it is not Trump serving Putin in any way, it is ending a conflict that can escalate into something far worse.

And whether it saves Putin in the process, I do not consider that a major factor.  Why?  Because his replacement could be as bad or worse than Putin.  Russia for the past 110 years has not produced leaders that one could admire if your interests center on freedom, democracy or any western values.  Every leader has been a totalitarian in Russia.

And Putin left in charge of Russia is a nation whose military might has been severely depleted.  There will be no attacks on NATO nations.  Plus, Putin is 72 years of age.  He is not immortal, so he will go by the wayside soon enough.

Trump's focus to bring peace is noble.  His making a deal with Zelensky will help restore some or all the money to the USA, and US folks will end up in Ukraine providing expertise to mine those minerals.  The US did the same with Russia to help them develop their oil/gas industry.  With a US presence in Ukraine, it will serve as a deterrent for further Russian aggression.
