A lot of people are getting caught up in the summary dismissal of probies. Probationary periods can last up to 3 years or more. Some good and hard working folks are getting pink slips, while 'tenured' folks may slack off. Not sure what to do about that.
Yep, I'm all for taking a meat cleaver to the more corrupt and useless agencies like USAID, SBA, CFPB, and even the IRS. But the wholesale decimation of the field staffs of the Department of Energy, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Interior (the National Parks and Forests) without any rhyme or reason won't end well for anybody. DOE is already scrambling to try and find and rehire the Q-level nuclear weapons engineers, inspectors, and tech speciliasts who were mistakenly fired on Thrusday. And even then, considering how shabbily they were treated, their loyalty to their jobs will certainly be in question now, even if they return.
And I also don't like all the HR officers being uniformly ordered to cite cause for separation as "Poor Performance," which will have negative employment consequences for many of the younger staffer who are fired.
And the general glee and even nastiness I'm seeing from Conservatives about the bloodletting is disturbing in the extreme. Now to wait for the "unintended consequences" which will surely follow.
Turmp and Musk need to do this smarter and more surgically.
