President Trump raised eyebrows in an interview that aired Monday after he declined to name Vice President Vance as his automatic successor ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

“No, but he is very capable,” Trump told fox News’ Bret Baier when asked if he viewed Vance as his 2028 successor.

“I think you have a lot of very capable people,” the president said. “So far I think he’s doing a fantastic job. It’s too early. We’re just starting.”

Trump is term-limited in 2028, having already served a non-consecutive term as president. While the next presidential contest is four years away, Trump will likely be expected to make an endorsement shortly after the midterms next year.

Here are seven potential Republican successors to Trump.

Abbott and Ramaswamy are both a hard no for me.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

The only one on that list I like is DeSantis.  Vance is a wait and see for me.

I like DeSantis alot, but Vance is a shoe-in if the Trump years are anywhere near as successful as we think they will be.
We have a beach head. Now it's time to win the war and save the Republic.

A wait and see for me as well.  I like DeSantis but I've grown to like Vance.  It's way too early to tell and right now focus should be on broadening the GOP majority in the House and Senate.

If Trump fails to follow through with DOGE over the next four years, his likely successor will be chosen by the DNC.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

I fully expect he'll name one of his sons.

Well out of all of his sons, though he is the youngest, and won't qualify age wise for another 17 years,  I feel Baron will eventually seek out the presidency.  (Doubtful not in my life time).

If either Eric or  Don Jr., run in the 2028 primary, I will NOT vote for them. No thank you.

Let's not forget about Sarah Sanders.

Absolutely 100%, no doubt.

I still absolutely adore Ron.

Yes, I think I like her.

And I wouldn’t mind Rand Paul at all.  He and Ron are my very short list.

I like Rand, but he's been a much needed voice in the Senate.  I don't foresee him running again.
