President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk took center stage in the Oval Office on Tuesday, unveiling a sweeping initiative to investigate federal bureaucrats whose salaries don’t seem to match their staggering net worths. Musk, donning a black “Make America Great Again” hat and accompanied by his son, “X,” stood beside Trump as he outlined findings that have raised serious concerns about financial irregularities in Washington.
Trump set the stage for Musk to present details, asking, “Could you mention some of the things that your team has found, some of the crazy numbers, including the woman that walked away with about $30 million?”
Musk, chosen by Trump to spearhead a cost-cutting overhaul of federal agencies, did not hold back.
“Well, we do find it rather odd that there are quite a few people in the bureaucracy who have an ostensibly salary of a few hundred thousand dollars, but somehow manage to accrue tens of millions of dollars in net worth while they are in that position,” Musk explained. “That’s what happened at USAID. We’re just curious as to where it came from. Maybe they’re very good at investing, in which case we should take their investment advice perhaps.”
“There seems to be mysteriously—they get wealthy. We don’t know why. Where did it come from? And I think the reality is that they’re getting wealthier at the taxpayer’s expense,” Musk stated.
