Trump to Hit Imported Steel and Aluminum with 25% Tariffs

President Donald Trump will announce Monday new 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum entering the United States, including from Canada and Mexico.

Canada and Mexico are two of the U.S.’s biggest steel trading partners, and Canada is the biggest supplier of aluminum metal into the country.

UPI reports Trump told reporters Sunday aboard Air Force One of his plan by declaring, “Any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25 percent tariff. Aluminum, too.”

Trump also reaffirmed he would announce “reciprocal tariffs” — “probably Tuesday or Wednesday” — meaning that the U.S. would impose import duties on products in cases where another country has levied duties on U.S. goods.

“If they are charging us 130 percent and we’re charging them nothing, it’s not going to stay that way,” he told reporters.

This... probably worries more than anything else Trump is doing quite frankly. I knew Trump liked tariffs of course, i was sort of hoping he'd approach them like he did his last administration. Jokes on me I guess.

He met with the Japanese head of state just last week. They discussed the purchase of US Steel. This more than likely has something to do with that.

WEIRTON, W.Va. — On Monday, President Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on all steel and aluminum imported into the U.S. And local union leaders say they're excited about the idea.

"I think it's very positive,” said Mark Glyptis, president, United Steel Workers Local 2911. “President Trump indicated that he would impose tariffs, he's putting tariffs on all countries, so it's going to apply to any steel coming into America as well as aluminum.

“The biggest culprit as far as dumping steel into our markets is China. China produces way more steel than they can consume in their own country."

USW leaders say the change could be a major step in combating the tactics of foreign-based steel companies. ...

FAIR trade. Plain and simple.  We can't have China dumping their excess steel/aluminum into our country and making money off of it.

We need to ramp up steel and aluminum production in our own country = jobs.
