This will be the true test - how many will be let in?  Does Trump have power over the U.N.????

New migrant caravan making its way to border despite Trump taking office

Just hours before President Donald Trump was sworn into office on Monday, a migrant caravan of more than 2,000 people set off from deep in southern Mexico with the aim of crossing into the U.S.

The caravan, consisting of men, women, and children from various countries, was seen marching through the southern Mexican city of Tapachula near the Guatemalan border in darkness early Monday. The migrants were carrying bags and rucksacks while migrant parents could be seen pushing children in strollers or carrying youngsters on their shoulders.

It's at least the tenth-largest caravan to walk out of Tapachula since the U.S. election, according to Border Report. It would take an adult migrant about 16 days of non-stop walking to get to the southern border.

The caravan is on the march despite Trump signing a flurry of executive orders on Monday clamping down on illegal immigration. He also declared a national border emergency.

In one order, Trump directed the federal government to resume construction of the border wall, which was largely dormant under the Biden administration. That order also ended Biden-era parole policies, including the use of the CBP One app to parole migrants into the U.S.

Erkin Torres, a migrant from Colombia who is part of the caravan, said he believes that Trump’s actions cannot supersede the United Nations, inferring what he believes is his right to apply for asylum.

"Just as Donald Trump takes power, he can't surpass the United Nations, understand? United as one," Torres told Reuters.

So exactly what is Mexico going to do with all  of these people???   IIRC Trump at one point in time had an agreement with Mexico to not let migrants into their country that wanted into the U.S.

I believe Mr. Torrez is incorrect in his beliefs.

That's a strong possibility, but unless Mexico is willing to keep these people from coming into  Mexico, what is Mexico going to do with all these people should the U.S. successfully keep them out?

We can't build that wall fast enough...I get that....we also need to start deportations .... but again ... where are all these people going to go?  Realistically???  Sending them all back into Mexico?  Mexico then needs to step up their game and start refusing to let them in to their country in the first place.   I'm doubtful that Guatemala is going to keep people from going into Mexico.

I've never been along the  Mexico/Guatemala border nor have I known anyone that's been  along  that border, so I don't have a clue.

And the exact reason we do not want any like him to be here.

The money quote in your post is Mexico needs to step up their game and start refusing to let them in.  Mexico's immigration laws are more stringent than ours from what I have read. I believe they could stop it...if they chose to. Of course, I don't know what their politics are on this...except send them to the US.

Right now, it's a wait and see as to what's going to happen now along the border and where are these people going to wind up?

Like I stated, I've never visually seen the Mexico/Guatemala border to know if the Mexicans have the capabilities to keep out 2,000 people.

That's a lot of people...I'm envisioning a small Mexican group of guards trying to keep people out of their country with the land being difficult to secure. A mass of 2,000 people coming at them ... other than firing upon them or declaring war .... what  options do they have?  They're likely overwhelmed .... Now .... if the U.S. is allowed into Mexico to secure that portion of the Mexican border, then it becomes a whole different scenario but perhaps not one that the U.S. wants to get involved in.

No, the US should not get involved in a foreign border conflict. But from what I have read, and info from friends, if Mexico decided to stop the invasion at their border...they could.

I guess we'll have to see what happens to the 2,000 on their way.  They've been announced.  Perhaps they are testing Trump.

well, they should have a good idea of where their back trail is. They can use it.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
