LA celebs imply LA Mayor Karen Bass backlash is over race — not drastic cuts to fire department, being out of US during wildfires
By Nicholas McEntyre
Published Jan. 12, 2025, 2:00 a.m. ET

Two LA-based actresses claimed embattled Mayor Karen Bass is only facing backlash because of her race — instead of forcing drastic cuts to the fire department and being out of the US when the historic deadly wildfires started.

“Act Your Age” co-stars Yvette Nicole Brown and Kym Whitley defended Bass as calls for her removal from office skyrocketed Saturday.

“She’s got a spine of steel, and she’s been a black woman in America for a really long time,” Brown told TMZ. “None of this is new.”

Brown, 53, has lived in the City of Angels for nearly three decades but couldn’t recall another mayor facing the same scrutiny as Bass, suggesting the criticism stemmed from racism.

“We have fires every year, and I don’t remember in the almost 30 years that I’ve lived in LA, I’ve never seen everybody react like this to the mayor and blame one person for a natural disaster,” Brown said.

I wonder whether that fool would be saying that if her own house burnt down or her family burnt to death in the blaze.

Seems we read regularly about the defund the police Dems demanding police protection after they were robbed, don't we?

Kim Kardashian demands higher pay for inmates battling LA fires: ‘I see them as heroes’
By Eric Todisco
Published Jan. 12, 2025, 9:06 a.m. ET

Kim Kardashian spoke out in support of the Southern California prison inmates who have joined the battle against the devastating wildfires.

The reality star and criminal justice activist, 44, released a statement on her Instagram Stories on Saturday and demanded higher pay for the incarcerated LA firefighters.

“I have spent the last week watching my city burning. And have seen and spoken to many firefighters who are up all night long using every ounce of their strength to save our community,” she began her message.

“On all 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters, risking their lives to save us,” Kardashian continued. “They are on the Palisades fire and Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts.”

The “American Horror Story” actress noted that the inmates “get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed are now first responders.”

LA elite hire $2,000-an-hour private firefighters

Californians are up in arms after it was revealed LA's elite are hiring private firefighters for as much as $2,000 an hour to save their multi-million dollar homes.

In an effort to protect their investments the ultra-rich of Tinsel Town are hiring expensive private firefighters to save their homes using a bright pink flame retardant, a move that is infuriating many.

Two arrested at Kamala Harris' LA home after cops were called to possible burglary amid wildfire chaos

Two men were arrested near Vice President Kamala Harris' Brentwood home on Saturday.

LAPD was called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. but were not on the property when they were detained.

Law enforcement sources told NBC Los Angeles, 'they likely had no idea where they were.'

The two men were detained for breaking curfew, but released after police found no evidence they were committing a crime, reported KTLA.

Five major fires continue to burn in LA: Updates

As the California wildfire crisis enters its fifth day, here is a rundown of the status of the biggest blazes as of Sunday morning:

Palisades Fire

The largest of the Los Angeles wildfires has scorched through 23,654 acres and leveled homes, businesses and structures in the Pacific Palisades right across to the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu.

So far, the fire is thought to have claimed the lives of at least five people and is just 11% contained.

The most recent development has seen the blaze explode into the Mandeville Canyon area, after the blaze spread towards it and the Brentwood neighborhood, partially closing the 405 freeway.

Eaton Fire

The Eaton Fire broke out on Tuesday and has since torn through 14,005 acres of land.

The blaze resulted in evacuation orders for those in Altadena and Pasadena, with more people ordered to flee on Thursday as the flames becan to encroach on Mount Wilson.

Glenoaks Canyon and Chevy Chase Canyon residents have since been allowed back home, with the fire 15% contained.

It has been estimated that the Eaton Fire has destroyed 7,000 structures and is responsible for the deaths of 8 people.

Kenneth Fire

The Kenneth Fire spans across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties and has so far burned 1,052 acres of land.

The blaze has been 90% contained since it broke out on Thursday and prior evacuation orders have since been lifted.

Hurst Fire

The smallest of the fires, the blaze is currently 76% contained and has affected 799 acres.

Evacuation orders were given to the areas around Sylmar, but these have since been lifted.

Exclusive — Firefighter Blasts Lack of Resources: ‘We Could Have Saved Buildings Like Caruso Did’

A Los Angeles firefighter, who wished to remain anonymous, blasted local leaders who cut funding to fire services, telling Breitbart News that the lack of personnel resources and other assets made fighting the Palisades Fire difficult.

Joel B. Pollak 12 Jan 2025

A Los Angeles firefighter, who wished to remain anonymous, blasted local leaders who cut funding to fire services, telling Breitbart News on Saturday that the lack of personnel and water made fighting the Palisades Fire difficult.

He said that claims that the “ember cast” — the wind-blown sparks and embers that carry fires to distant points — were too thick to save neighborhoods that were remote from the initial fire, but were destroyed, were not credible.

“We could have pre-deployed [ahead of the fire]. We didn’t have the resources. We could have saved buildings like [Rick] Caruso did. They say the ember cast was too thick? [Palisades unit] didn’t have the resources or the water to protect Ralph’s [the grocery store across from the local fire station].”

Caruso, a businessman and developer, managed to save his own Palisades Village mall by hiring a private firefighting company with its own water tankers.

Videos of Caruso’s mall, and the surrounding area, show the stark contrast between private and public services.

It Keeps Getting Worse: L.A. Water 'CEO' Makes Unbelievable Salary and Claimed 'Equity' Was Top Priority
By Bonchie | 4:12 PM on January 11, 2025

The revelations out of Los Angeles just keep getting worse as multiple wildfires continue to ravage the city. Mayor Karen Bass (D) has faced heavy scrutiny for being on a taxpayer-funded "diplomatic" trip to Africa during the crisis. Her return didn't quell criticism, as she had no answers for the many cascading failures that led to the most expensive wildfires in history. As I'm about to share, things have just gotten worse, though.

SEE: Karen Bass' Week Gets Even Worse After Disastrous Press Conference

One of the primary drivers of the devastation has been a lack of water due to unfilled reservoirs in Los Angeles County and unmaintained, failing infrastructure that caused fire hydrants to run dry. As RedState reported, the Ynez Reservoir was taken offline for maintenance during wildfire season, a decision that has turned out to be catastrophic.

LA Mayor Karen Bass Turns Down FDNY Help as Newsom Welcomes Aid from Mexico Crews
Sarah Arnold

January 11, 2025 12:30 PM

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has rejected assistance from one of the country’s more prominent fire departments despite the city grappling with an ongoing shortage of firefighters to battle the wildfires still raging across the city, burning iconic buildings, restaurants, and residents’ homes. As the blazes continue to threaten homes and communities, many question the decision to turn down additional help, especially from one of the country's most renowned fire departments. With local resources stretched thin, the rejection has sparked frustration among residents and critics who argue that every available hand is needed to contain the disaster.

As officials in the area struggled to contain, Bass refused to accept help from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). JetBlue Airlines even agreed to pay for the firefighters' fares to Los Angeles. However, New York City Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker confirmed that the Democrat mayor has yet to call in assistance. A source suggested that Bass may have hesitated to accept help from the FDNY, noting that fighting wildfires is "a whole different beast" that demands specialized training, unlike the more conventional building fires the department typically handles. Still, as the wildfires ravage the city, Los Angeles could use all the help it can get.

Leaked memo reveals LA Mayor Karen Bass demanded her fire department cut an extra $49 million just ONE WEEK before wildfires broke out
By JOSH BOSWELL FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
14:59 10 Jan 2025, updated 18:22 10 Jan 2025

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass demanded her Fire Department make an extra $49million of budget cuts last week, a leaked memo revealed.

This cut is already on top of $17.6million of cuts in her latest budget.

The extra cuts, requested just days before fires broke out and devastated swathes of Los Angeles, would have shut down 16 fire stations and crippled the department's ability to respond to emergencies, sources said.

DailyMail.com interviewed current and former senior LAFD officers briefed on the shocking proposed cuts, and exclusively obtained the memo from an LA Fire Department (LAFD) whistleblower who posts on social media under the moniker 'LAFD Watchdog'.

The memo is dated January 6, only a day before the devastating Palisades Fire started.

The fire is both tragic and ironic

When I was still on Free Russia, there were discussions going on then about Fort MacMurray (Alberta) burning in 2016, then the town of Jasper burning down from wildfire just last July ... pattern was always the same - the accumulation of brush ("we have to keep things natural") and the ignored warnings ...

Guess people just read it and moved on, without looking around them ...

FreeRussia is controlled by a small group of anti-free-speech Nazis - no wonder its donations are down!!

Report: L.A. Mayor Karen Bass Gave City Workers ‘Rich’ Contracts Before Cutting Fire Department Budget

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) reportedly awarded government workers with major wage increases before making cuts to the city’s fire department budget.

“Mayor Karen Bass’s budget cuts to the city’s fire department, enacted just months ago amid warnings about the city’s deteriorating finances, stand out as a striking example of misplaced priorities,” The City Journal reported on Friday:

The cuts stemmed from a budget crisis triggered by her administration’s decision to reward city employees with rich contracts and benefits—even as it dismissed worries that the reductions would hurt services. “Predictions that city services will be impossible to deliver,” deputy mayor Zach Seidl told the press, “are simply false.” Few public statements have aged as poorly—or as hauntingly—as this one.

    …

Shortly after taking office, Bass began negotiating with public sector unions over expiring contracts. Early last year, those talks resulted in more than two dozen agreements with unions representing the city’s civilian employees, guaranteeing wage hikes of between 20 percent and 25 percent over five years. The contracts raised the minimum wage for city employees from $20 to $25 per hour and also contained rich benefits, including allowing workers to cash in 100 percent of their unused sick time when they retire—an increasingly rare perk in the private sector. An analysis by the city’s administrative officer said the deal would cost Los Angeles $3.5 billion over the life of the contracts. A similar multiyear deal with police unions was projected to add another $1 billion to costs.

Schiff Calls for ‘Independent Commission’ to Investigate CA Wildfire Response

Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that an independent commission should investigate the local and state response to the wildfires in Southern California.

Schiff said, “The governor’s called for an independent review of why we didn’t have enough water in places like the Palisades, there were also water pressure issues in Altadena. I support that independent review. I think we should go further and, frankly, do an independent commission review of all of this. What went right in our response? What went wrong in it.”

He added, “I’m deeply concerned about these erroneous alerts, these erroneous evacuation alerts that have gone out. If people can’t trust when they’re told you need to get out, that they do need to get out, then it not only severely impacts the whole effort, but people ignore the alerts, endangering themselves and endangering the firefighters that have to step between the fires and these civilians. So there’s a lot to get through. I think we need an independent commission to look at all of it, and beyond that, Jonathan, we’re going to need to rebuild and with a sense of urgency. We need cleanup operations when the flames are out. We need the rebuilding to go forward.”

BLM Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors Lost 2 of Her 3 LA Mansions
By M Dowling -January 12, 20251

LOS ANGELES – MAY 30, 2020: Co-Founder of Organization Black Lives Matter Patrisse Khan-Cullors
The rich communist Patrisse Cullors lost two of her three mansions in the wildfires. She is one of three communist founders of Black Lives Matter, which was heavily funded by equally far-left George Soros (at least to the tune of $33 million).

READ ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF BLACK LIVES MATTER HERE
In April 2021, the New York Post wrote about her wealth, which does not follow the communist mantra.
As protests broke out across the country in the name of Black Lives Matter, the group’s co-founder went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records.

Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37, also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes, The Post has learned. Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent.
