Lawmakers brace for Trump's promised Jan. 6 pardons. Some are urging restraint

WASHINGTON -- The fourth anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol has a new focus as lawmakers brace for the prospect that President-elect Donald Trump may soon pardon many of the more than 1,500 people charged with crimes for their actions related to the riot.

Trump said he would issue pardons to rioters on “Day 1” of his presidency, which begins Jan. 20. “Most likely, I’ll do it very quickly,” he said recently on NBC's “Meet the Press.” He added that “those people have suffered long and hard. And there may be some exceptions to it. I have to look. But, you know, if somebody was radical, crazy.”

His promise, made throughout his campaign for the White House, is shadowing events Monday as lawmakers gather to certify a presidential election for the first time since 2021, when Trump’s supporters breached the Capitol and temporarily halted the certification of an election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said she has spoken at length with Trump and is lobbying him to pardon everyone who participated in the siege. Few Republicans are going that far, but many believe it’s appropriate for Trump to look at pardons on a case-by-case basis.

The Feds could pay down the debt by auctioning pardons on eBay.

The @$$ clowns in DC no longer have any credibility.  They are all full of $h!t, and we know it.

They are a collection of unprincipled thieves and liars.  We have no reason to believe anything they say or do.

Trump should show a little restraint: he should pardon only those whose conviction did not involve any violence.  Any who were convicted of any violent crime in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021 riot should have their sentence commuted to time served at the point when they hit the average time of incarceration for the same crime when there is no political motivation on the part of the prosecutors.  (And that's exactly how much restraint he should show.)
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

For what, exactly,  are the lawmakers bracing? How does a pardon affect them?

He should pardon EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM...NO EXCEPTIONS!

These people have gotten the shaft in this country’s corrupt legal system.  At the very least, those who didn’t commit acts of violence (vs who did engage in violence) should be freed and compensated.

And… the murderer who shot Ashli Babbitt must be properly prosecuted.

Plus or minus a few who actually did something violent, Trump should show the same "restraint" the InJustice Department showed in hounding and jailing these people. And with the "few who actually did something violent" Trump should look at whether their consequences were proportional to what they did. If not, commute and/or pardon.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I was the first member of this forum to call for a general amnesty of January 6th prisoners AND participants.

I may have been one of the first in America to do so.

I've been posting this for a few years now in the forum.

ALL January 6th participants must be fully pardoned and immediately released (if held in prison).

ALL of them -- even those few who actually engaged in wrongdoing on that day.

This "blanket amnesty" must be done as a matter of principle, that principle being:
Political prosecutions are not permitted in the United States.

Pardon and release them all.
