Chinese military adds hundreds of missiles to arsenal, Pentagon report reveals

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army has added hundreds of new missiles and 100 more nuclear warheads as part of a military buildup designed for a future war with the United States, according to a Pentagon report made public Wednesday.

The latest survey of Chinese military power also for the first time reveals extensive PLA preparations for sophisticated information warfare operations against the United States, including the use of “deep fake” online posts and cyber-enabled psychological warfare. The goal is to target U.S. military leaders’ decision making in a regional conflict and to demoralize troops and sow divisions in U.S. society, Pentagon analysts said.

The latest report provides new details on extensive PLA advances in weapons systems, doctrine and training. The efforts include practice missile strikes against U.S. aircraft carriers and warships during operations against Taiwan, the self-ruled island Beijing has vowed to annex as early as 2027..............

...............The report notes that the PLA Rocket Force in recent months has rapidly expanded the number of missiles in its arsenal. A total 50 new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) have been added, along with 300 new medium-range ballistic missiles, and 100 new long-range ground-launched cruise missiles, just since the previous U.S. estimate in 2023.

It’s part of a long-term modernization program by Beijing to bolster strategic deterrence, and includes development of new ICBMs “that will significantly improve its nuclear-capable missile forces and will require increased nuclear warhead production.”

Additionally, China is working on a conventionally-armed ICBM for precision-guided attacks against the United States, the report said..............

China is conducting the largest military build-up seen since that of Nazi Germany during the 1930s, one expert warns, after a new Department of Defense report detailed Beijing's operations including bolstering weapons and psychological warfare.

In a piece for The Federalist, Chuck DeVore, chief national initiatives officer at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, referenced the Pentagon's annual report to Congress and warned that the United States has spent $5.4 trillion on its war on terror and futile nation building while the Chinese threat has grown. He urged that Congress get on board with the incoming Trump administration to reallocate resources within the Pentagon to better prioritize naval strength, nuclear deterrence, missile defense, and logistics.

"China is engaging in an unprecedented military build-up that the world frankly hasn't seen since Adolf Hitler in the 1930s," DeVore, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, told "Fox & Friends Weekend."

"Now the big difference there, is that he really focused on land power, which frankly is pretty easy to build up pretty quickly," he added. "Navies are much more difficult to build up. And we are way behind. And not only do we need to catch up, but we also need to modernize our nuclear weapons, and we need to put a lot of effort into missile defense." ...............

I think this is a huge concern; those in charge as of late are more interested in the 'wokeness' of our military.  I believe Trump will set out to correct that ASAP.

I question the Chinese ability to fight large scale battles. They have alot of shiny toys but how good they are, and how effectively they could deploy and tactically/strategically use them is questionable.

That said, at a certain point, sheer numbers may make all that meaningless, not unlike what we did to the Germans and Japs in WWII.
