It’s difficult to think of an analogy to use when trying to illustrate how the media and players are trying to destroy the WNBA without realizing it. Not because it’s particularly impossible, but because they’re all so outdated. To hear the Democrats say it, racism is everywhere and “white supremacy” controls everything in the country, if not the world. But it’s really not. It still exists, but it does so in insignificant ways as to not really matter. Yet, getting back to the WNBA, the press around, and hatred of Caitlin Clark is racist. Just let the league die already.

First off, let me say that I am not the target demographic for the WNBA. Not only am I a man, but I don’t enjoy basketball – once you’ve seen a 7-foot-tall guy slam dunk a basketball one time, you’re pretty much seen it every time. I get the skill, and I don’t have the skill, but I also don’t really want to have the skill. There are far too many timeouts, traveling, fouls (called and missed) and seemingly always comes down to the last 2 minutes, which takes as long as the rest of the game had, for me to be interested. It’s like watching an NFL game with a flag-happy referee crew: it’s boring.

That being said, people like it. The NBA is wildly popular and very profitable. The WNBA is none of those things.

Washington Mystics co-owner and businesswoman Sheila Johnson has criticized TIME magazine for its recent Athlete of the Year cover announcement.

In an interview on Friday morning with CNN, Johnson criticized the major publication for focusing on former Iowa-now-Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark — despite the league as a whole reeling in new popularity.

On Tuesday, TIME awarded 22-year-old Caitlin Clark the TIME's Athlete of the Year following a record-breaking college season and journey as the No. 1 draft pick into the WNBA.

Johnson says the WNBA as a whole should have made the cover as "Athlete of the Year" rather than singling out Clark.

I've read elsewhere that over 30% of the Mystics' attendance revenue for 2024 came from the two home games the Mystics played against Clark's team, the Indiana Fever. WNBA attendance and TV viewership has skyrocketed in just the one year Clark has played. The WNBA's talent pool may be under-appreciated, but Clark brought new appreciation AND set league records while doing so.

Johnson's atack on Clark and Time Mag is pathetic at best and very likely racially motivated.

Has Sheila Johnson ever proposed a team award all those years when a non-white person won TIME's athlete of the year award, e.g., Simone Biles or LeBron James?

I have never followed basketball, but I’ve noticed several things about Caitlin Clark’s rookie year: she’s making records; WNBA attendance is wa-a-a-a-ayyy up; she has been constantly attacked, through gross fouls, and by the sports commentariat. She’s not mouths/arrogant or a ball-hog, so I can see no reason for the attacks other than her skin color and/or her sexual preference.

But Caitlin Clark just bowed to PC Woke!  While being eviscerated for being TIME's "athlete of the year", in that very same article she apologizes for whiteness and privilege and for all the blacks that surely "built this league".

I have to wonder if she's just another coward, or at least has been scared to death by all the hatred spewed on her, and is basically saying "please don't hurt me" with the PC antics.

We can't count on anyone.

And anyone remember, Rebecca Lobo?  White girl, HUGE star 30 years ago.

Before Caitlin Clark, no WNBA team drew over 200k fans in a season.  In Caitlin Clark's first season, six WNBA teams have drawn over 200k fans.

On the road, Caitlin Clark's team has drawn over 300k fans, nearly 90k more than any other team.  So it is clear that the WNBA should be thanking her, not the other way around.
