California Residents Advised To Stay Indoors Due To Wildfire Smoke
Millions of people in southern California have been advised to limit outdoor activity and refrain from burning wood on Thursday amid concerns about air quality.

The mandatory wood-burning ban has been extended throughout the South Coast Air Basin, which includes Orange County and the non-desert areas of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
 
The ban prohibits the burning of wood, pellets and manufactured fire logs, both indoors and outdoors.

It does not apply to areas above 3,000 feet in elevation and homes that rely on wood as a sole heat source, as well as low-income homes that do not have a natural gas service.

In my Navy days, 50 years ago operating about 50 miles out to sea off Mejifornia, we would occasionally encounter smog banks.  It was this orange/brown mass extending off the ocean about 100 ft. in the air.  I see all the earth saving Mejifornia has done is working miracles for clean air.

A few decades ago it was a common joke in the Land of LA not to trust air you could not reach out and touch.

Improved car exhaust emissions has made significant improvements from 5 or 6 decades ago, but Los Angeles Bay area geography and weather patterns tend to trap smoke from any sources, something Native Americans observed even before the Spanish arrived.

I'm gonna limit myself to about 15-18 miles on the mountain bike then...as opposed to maybe 20.
