It's not "aid" It's a payoff to the "rebels" for a job well done. Saddam, Gaddafi, Assad and Putin in their sights, the US/NATO alliance is attempting to take out the world's strong men so they can replace them with their own stooges. Every time this has happened in the past the country and the region and have become less stable and there's been more war.

Opposition fighters who have been fighting to depose al-Assad since March 2012 first took over Aleppo, Syria's second largest city.

In the short term, Iranian influence has been drastically cut back, which is a good thing.  However, we are now directly at odds with our NATO ally Turkey who is hell bent on wiping out the Kurds similar to their genocide against Armenia a century ago.

As you can see from the map, the area controlled by Assad's forces was significant.  Now there is a giant void created with three other factions now having direct access.  The one winning the race is HTS, because their strategy is to take over all of Syria one city at a time.  They are the first ones arriving in Damascus.  The Kurds could care less about ruling all of Syria.  Same for the Druze.

Donald Trump has issued an ominous warning to Vladimir Putin to secure a ceasefire with Ukraine after Syrian rebels toppled their longtime leader - a major Kremlin ally.

Trump voiced his views via Truth Social after Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, fled amid a dramatic coup following more than 13 years of civil war in the country.

The Islamist rebels also dealt a major blow to the influence of Russia and Iran in Syria in the heart of the region - allies who propped up Assad during critical periods in the conflict.

Trump tied the seismic moment in the Middle East to Putin's war in Ukraine, saying the Russian president had 'lost all interest in Syria' after funneling resources into the eastern European conflict instead.   

'Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer,' Trump wrote at 2am on Sunday.

'There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.'

Trump, 78, added that Russia and Iran were now in a 'weakened state' because of the war in Ukraine and 'a bad economy' - while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy 'would like to make a deal and stop the madness'.

'They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians,' Trump wrote, referring to Ukraine. 'There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin.

   We'll see if Trump can play multi-dimensional chess, afterall.  Since Intelligence could not assassinate him (they tried at least twice) they are moving their pieces into place now and not waiting for the inauguration.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted dozens of airstrikes on known ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria on Sunday to prevent the terrorist organization from taking advantage of the demise of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime.

After Assad’s family ruled over Syria for more than 50 years, Assad was forced to flee Syria to Russia, where he was granted asylum, when a coalition of largely radical Islamist groups led a sweeping offensive across Syria and captured the country’s capital city.

CENTCOM announced on Sunday that it has conducted strikes against ISIS leaders, operatives and camps as part of an ongoing mission to "disrupt, degrade and defeat ISIS."

Specifically, CENTCOM is working to prevent the terrorist group from conducting operations to ensure ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria.

I guess we'll see how this turns out. But looking at past events, I'm not hopeful. Usually the new regime is worse than the deposed.

I do wonder what Nan thinks. Seems to me she made an unauthorized trip there against GWB's wishes and the stance of the US government to brown nose Assad. And reported what a great guy he was.

Assad's 'virtue' was that he was enough of a tyrant to keep a number of opposing factions from constant major conflict within the country and hammer some sort of functioning government from that scrum. WIthout the 'baddest bad guy of all' running the show, it will be interesting to see where the power struggles go, and what levels of internal conflict ensue. Note, that the Russians bailed, for the most part. Naval assets are out of there, etc. The trick will be to let them sort it out without getting outside their lines, and dealing with what is left. I have little doubt that there are those trying to influence which way all that goes from inside the country, and some of them are three letter agency connected, directly or (likely SOF) through assignment by or attachment to such influences.

I totally agree. Sadly, it takes a bad guy to hammer the multitudes of tribes that inhabit these nations into some sort of cohesion. Much like Saddam did in Iraq.

When the war started in Syria, I tried to figure out who was who and why. There were so many bad actors I really couldn't figure out if there was a good guy. And finally decided there wasn't.
