Scalise calls for Trump criminal cases to be dropped ‘immediately’

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) is calling for the immediate end of the criminal cases opened against Trump, citing his victory over Harris on Tuesday.

“The American people have spoken: the lawfare must end,” Scalise wrote in a post on X. “I call on Attorney General Garland, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis to immediately terminate the politically motivated prosecutions of President Donald Trump.”

Scalise’s statement comes as Trump is involved in a handful of criminal cases, one of which he is scheduled for sentencing later this month.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison has reportedly declined to mount a reelection bid next year after voters dealt his party a resounding blow Tuesday evening.

Harrison oversaw the South Carolina Democratic Party from 2013 to 2017 before being elected to chair the DNC in January 2021.

Nearly four years later, he will not run for renomination when the DNC holds a leadership vote early next year, according to a Reuters report. Harrison is set to hold an all-staff meeting on Wednesday and did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

The news comes as the Democratic Party is reeling from a string of losses following the 2024 elections, with it appearing likely that the GOP will have control of the House and Senate, in addition to the White House.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is anticipating full Republican control of Washington, D.C., after the GOP swept the White House and the Senate on Tuesday night.

"As more results come in it is clear that, as we have predicted all along, Republicans are poised to have unified government in the White House, Senate, and House," Johnson said in a statement Wednesday morning.

He said Republican promises of "secure borders, lower costs, peace through strength, and a return to common sense" drove Americans to vote red across the country."

"House Republicans have been successful in securing critical flips in swing states including Pennsylvania and Michigan, while our battle-tested incumbents have secured re-election from coast to coast," Johnson continued. "The latest data and trends indicate that when all the votes are tabulated, Republicans will have held our majority, even though we faced a map with 18 Biden-won seats.

"We will continue to monitor the results and ensure every legal ballot is counted throughout this process."

As of late Wednesday morning, The Associated Press projected House Republicans to have won 198 seats to Democrats' 177. Of the 435 House races across the country, the first party to win 218 will take the majority.

A significant number of outstanding races are in California, where Republicans are fighting to hold onto several seats that were critical to them winning the majority in 2022.

The GOP suffered two setbacks in New York on Tuesday night with the projected losses of Reps. Marc Molinaro and Brandon Williams, who were both expected to run in tight races.

Republicans are projected to hold onto Rep. Mike Lawler's critical New York swing seat and the central New Jersey district represented by Rep. Tom Kean, however — both key suburban victories. They also are projected to flip Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin's Michigan House seat, which she vacated to run for Senate.

A senior aide for Kamala Harris tells Fox News that the vice president has called President-Elect Trump Wednesday to congratulate him on winning the 2024 race.

During the call, Harris discussed the importance of peaceful transfer of power and serving as a president who represents all Americans, the aide said.

Harris is expected to make public comments later this afternoon during a speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Nobody is happier and more relieved because of Trump's victory than Kamala herself. It was obvious to everyone that she had no idea at all what she was doing and that she did not belong there. I have no doubt Kamala who is a second string backbencher did not relish the idea of being put on the frontline. Can anyone imagine Kamala trying to negotiate with Putin or Xi? She has the mind of a 13 year old girl. She would be scared out of her mind.

The whole VP gig was thrust upon her. She did not seek it and did not strive for it. The President gig was also laid on her shoulders without her participation or even her permission. The Presidential campaign was nothing more than a big pain in the ass for her and her lifestyle. She cannot wait to get back to normal.

As VP she was invisible. And that is just exactly the way she likes it. Kamala is feeling a huge sigh of relief today. She can now go back to drinking, laughing, being silly, and goofing off with no consequences, which is all she ever wanted.

The mysogynysts at the DNC chose the man, Jamie Harrison, because they valued raising money more than getting out the vote.  Dollars buy ads, consultants, and staff, but they do not vote.

The DNC is more out of touch with America than ever.  This time, in 2024, Trump not only won the Electoral College, he also won the popular vote.  That is the American People repudiating the Obama agenda.

It really does make me wonder though why she was selected in the first place as VP and quite amazing that they would insert her to run as president.  They could have 'fanagled' a much more formidable opponent than she.  As much as they hate Trump I think they wanted him in and realized that they had no one to save them from themselves.

Jeffries insists control of the House is still in play

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said in a statement that the House majority is still up for grabs as several races remain too close to call.

“The path to take back the majority now runs through too close to call pick-up opportunities in Arizona, Oregon and Iowa — along with several Democratic-leaning districts in Southern California and the Central Valley,” Jeffries said.

“The party that will hold the majority in the House of Representatives in January 2025 has yet to be determined. We must count every vote,” the minority leader continued.

If Democrats win the majority, Jeffries will be the first black speaker of the House in U.S. history.

Democrats have secured 184 seats to Republicans’ 201. Fifty seats are yet to be decided as of 2:45 p.m.
