Not a true "yesteryears"...but when I moved here 40 or so years ago, we all knew each other. We'd sit out in the  evening when it was cool and talk. A couple of times a month the guys would cook fresh fish we had caught  or BBQ burgers, hotdogs or if it was on sale brisket. All us ladies would fix side dishes and deserts. I knew not only them, but their kids.

Sadly, those days are gone. All the old bunch have died. I know 2 of my neighbors, but we don't gather. Heck, I guess we all get old, lol

I look out my peephole before I exit my front door.  Neighbors, who's got time for their gossip BS.

@corbe Wetern Auto may be gone, but the pinnacle of my art career was drawing a store on the back of a 'no trespassing' sign while waiting for the school bus. I entered it in the contest they had going on to draw the store and won first place: a $25 gift certificate and a trophy. The Gift Certificate didn't last long, but I still have the trophy. Yes, my first bicycle was a 20" Western Flyer.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

My First and only 'Spin the Bottle' had me going into a closet and fingering the local Dyke, how I wish it would have been her GF, who I later had an incredible relationship with all summer, Michelle.      I think I was 14 or 15.
