For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

Zappa knew the Presses then, back in the 60's.

Sure seems so.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Weather commentators are beginning to remind me of sportscasters...

Absolutely.  It became ridiculous.  Just report the vicinity of the hurricane in relation to the geography of where it's going to make landfall...that's all we need, and really all we have time for.  All their 'fluff' was ridiculous.

They interviewed one poor guy this morning who was extracting water out of his house and tearing out boards and a news reporter actually followed him around while he was trying to work.  It was beyond ridiculous.  Now if the reporter had actually pitched in and helped the poor guy, that would have been newsworthy.

Coast Guard video shows helicopter crew rescue man floating on a cooler 30 miles off Florida coast
Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key on Wednesday evening as a Category 3 storm
 By Greg Wehner Fox News
Published October 10, 2024 6:34pm EDT

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew located and rescued a man who was seen clinging to a cooler in the Gulf of Mexico nearly 30 miles off Florida's central-west coast.

Coast Guard District 7, which covers South Carolina, Georgia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean Sea and Florida, posted video of the miraculous rescue Thursday afternoon.

In the video, a Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Miami is seen approaching the man clinging to a cooler as a member of the crew is lowered into the water.

The crew member then swims over to the man in distress, before the video ends.

@cato potatoe

I hope the storm missed you...

St Pete took it on the chin, but the flooding event never came to fruition.  A last minute turn definitely saved the insurance/reinsurance industries.  My electric returned this evening.  About 70% of the metro is without.

The death toll from Hurricane Milton stood at 16 on Friday morning with Florida residents warned to expect the number to rise as rescue workers make their way through floodwaters and debris.

You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

I'm right there with you. When they stand out there in all the wind, rain and flooding, why do they think they would be able to dissuade citizens from doing the same thing? After all, they see that the reporters aren't dying as a result of weathering the storm. Instead they're having what some would call an adventure. No one thinks they have a special dispensation for defying the weather. Why do they act like they do?

Well, I did like that video of Anderson Cooper getting smashed in the face by flying debris.

I didn't get to see that, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it. I can't tell you how many laughs I got when Geraldo was knocked down by the wave coming over the seawall in Galveston in Ike.  :silly:

Yes, I remember seeing it a while back. I wanted to punch a hole in my computer so I could strangle that reporter. I hope they got a lot of blowback for their heartless reporting.
