Our president has no more control over Vladimir Putin than I do. The Russian oligarchs and Putin will decide what they will do next and so far it looks like their war will rage on.

There are things that Trump can do to persuade Putin.

The Russians can only be persuaded by raw power. They laugh at anything less. They always have.

Megan is right about power being the only thing the Russians respect.

Trump has beat down Z enough.  He needs to implement whatever sanctions on Russia he planned to be effective on X date.  Tell Putin you have until this date, and the sanctions will be implemented.  And if they are, we will prepare another set of sanctions to be implemented another 10 days down the road.  I say choke that MF every way possible.

Trump's grand delusions of adding Russia to the G7 should be put on the back, back burner as an enticement.

Time for the USA to tell China, trade with us, or trade with Russia.  Your choice, but you will shutdown anything you are doing with Russia, namely buying their oil/gas, or we shut down trade with China.

I say choke Russia until they scream uncle.

This.

Russia has now had their chance to end this. Now it's time to put the screws to Russia and all of their friends like China.

And the term "trade embargo" needs to start being used in public.

Ukrainian Airforce Unleashed GBU Bombs on Russian Bases!

Excerpts:
News from the Kursk direction

By targeting Russian defensive and offensive capabilities, and command posts and conducting daring raids against the advancing enemy, Ukrainian troops ruined the Russian plans of penetrating the line. The Ukrainian withdrawal was a calculated response to deteriorating battlefield conditions. Russian forces had advanced to key positions, gaining fire control over Ukrainian supply routes and any further delay would have risked encirclement.

At the same time, Ukrainian operators conducted dozens of drone strikes on advancing Russian units while they attempted to take ground that Ukrainians had abandoned. Their advance was disrupted by kamikaze drones and drone-dropped grenades, causing more casualties and slowing them down further. These combined efforts created a crucial window of opportunity, enabling the main Ukrainian force to execute an orderly withdrawal. Russian attempts to disrupt it were met with swift and resourceful responses. In one instance, Ukrainian soldiers, after early warning systems detected an incoming Russian drone, stepped out of their vehicle and successfully shot down the incoming enemy FPV.

This operation was possible due to the heroic cover that the Ukrainian rear guard provided. Overall, despite operating under challenging conditions, including the loss of U.S. intelligence sharing, Ukrainian forces successfully withdrew from the northern part of the Kursk salient. By effectively disrupting Russian command structures, targeting artillery, and employing several delaying operations, they ensured that their retreat was a carefully managed maneuver. Now positioned in more defensible locations, Ukrainian forces are better prepared for the next phase of the battle, having once again demonstrated their ability to adapt and outmaneuver a numerically superior enemy.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces state that claims made about the “encirclement” of Ukrainian units the Kursk Oblast of Western Russia are untrue, and “created by the Russians for political purposes and pressure on Ukraine and its partners.” Adding that the situation has remained largely unchanged over the last day, with Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine having successfully regrouped, withdrawn to more advantageous defensive positions, or are executing their assigned tasks within the Kursk Oblast.

NSFW: Vladimir Solovyov responds to Trump's ceasefire proposal

Note, due to some vulgarity I am labeling this NSFW. Use discretion if you wish to listen to this.

Synopsis:

Vladimir Soloyov, Russia state media's equivalent to Tucker Carlson, is denouncing Trump's proposed ceasefire as "absolutely untethered from reality, All of it is totally meaningless".

The rest of the diatribe is more of the same.

Given that Soloyov is a personal friend of Putin's and a mouthpiece of the Soviet Russian state media it is pretty clear that Putin is not going to go along with any plan to cease hostilities let alone end his stupid war.

See for yourself:

I hear what you are saying. But freedom doesn't come cheap. There appears to be one country willing to fight for freedom. I can only dream that we would fight that hard if the situation were similar. What's the Franklin saying about the tree of freedom needing to be watered?

Russians are not civilized by western standards.  They do not value life at all.  They have no tolerance for strangers.  They are an isolated nation for a reason.  They have ZERO integrity as a people.  They steal and cheat with every opportunity in the country, despite the potential threat of imprisonment.

NEVER trust a Russian.  I say Trump is not approaching them correctly.  He needs to use the big stick and knock their legs out.

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, March 14, 2025
ISW has observed no geolocated evidence to indicate that Russian forces have encircled a significant number of Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast or elsewhere along the frontline in Ukraine. [ edit: they are in fact withdrawn from Kursk, except for volunteers that stayed behind to cover the withdrawal - their fate is unknown - they may be KIA, POW, or murdered. ]

US intelligence reportedly continues to assess that Putin is unwilling to end the war in Ukraine and remains committed to conquering Ukraine, which is consistent with ISW’s long-term assessment of Putin's objectives in Ukraine and unwillingness to negotiate in good faith. The Washington Post, citing unspecified people familiar with the matter, reported that classified US intelligence reports assess that Putin remains committed to his goal of dominating Ukraine, and reported that a US intelligence assessment dated March 6, 2025, concluded that Putin remains determined to “hold sway” over Ukraine.

Current and former US officials told the Washington Post that if Putin did agree to a temporary ceasefire, Russia would use the ceasefire to rest and refit Russian forces and that Putin would likely break the agreement and falsely blame Ukraine for violating the ceasefire. Four Western intelligence officials and two US congressional officials told NBC on February 18 that intelligence from the United States and US allies shows that Putin still aims to control all of Ukraine and that there is no intelligence suggesting that Putin is ready for a peace deal. ISW continues to assess that the Kremlin maintains its long-standing goals in Ukraine, which amount to Ukraine's full capitulation, and the Kremlin has maintained its expansionist rhetoric despite recent talks with the Trump administration about peace in Ukraine.

The “Moscow Rules”: Ten Principles for Working with Russia
https://icds.ee/en/the-moscow-rules-ten-principles-for-working-with-russia/

1. Don’t say “they wouldn’t do that, it doesn’t make sense”.
2. Don't confuse understanding Russia with excusing Russia.
3. Don't ask binary questions.
4. Don't be distracted by bluster, bravado and bluff.
5. Don't forget that Russia does not consist of just one man.
6. Don't just hope for “change”.
7. Don't expect Russia to respect values and standards that were invented elsewhere.
8. Do not hope to appeal to Russia's better nature. It doesn't have one.
9. Don't assume that there must be common ground.
10. Don't think that you can choose whether to be at war with Russia or not.

Rob Dannenberg: The Art of Negotiating with Vladimir Putin
https://www.thecipherbrief.com/column_article/the-art-of-negotiating-with-vladimir-putin

President Trump's team should also keep in mind the basic principles of negotiating with Russia that have been true from the establishment of the Soviet regime in 1919, if not before.
1) Never let Russia believe it is negotiating from a position of strength.
2) Never concede any of your opponent's key negotiating objectives before negotiations have even started.
3) Make apparent before negotiations begin the cost of failed negotiations to your opponent.
There is an old Russian adage about negotiations: what is ours is ours, what is yours is negotiable.
