Trumps Threat On Tariffs On John Deere Has One Major Problem

The USMCA Act which he pushed for and signed in January 2020 prohibits these sort of tariffs.

"They've announced a few days ago that they're going to move a lot of their manufacturing business to Mexico," Trump said. "I'm just notifying John Deere right now: If you do that, we're putting a 200 percent tariff on everything that you want to sell into the United States." Newsweek has contacted John Deere for comment via email outside of standard working hours.

However, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) signed by Trump in January 2020, a replacement for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), prohibits the leverage of tariffs on a range of goods, allowing companies to manufacture in Mexico and Canada and export back to the U.S. without high costs.

He tells his lemmings what they want to hear and they  gobble it up without any question.

In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.-Woody Allen

I own a 100hp John Deere tractor for the farm and believe me, Deere has significantly degraded the quality of parts since I bought it 10 years ago.  Parts are mostly made in Mexico and China

I think TYM, KIOTI, and the like entering the market is a healthy thing. I quit worrying about green and yellow a long time ago.

I should add... As far as old school goes, we *just* got a Massey dealer back in town - Hasn't been one here for twenty years. Big Green losing it's grip?

I've heard complaints around here that JD has been slipping for at least 25 years. Lot of guys have went with Kubotas, New Hollands, Case IH and others, especially in the mid-horsepower range.

Problem with tariffs is that they are inflationary, period. No way around it. For some things, like to curb the worse abuses of trade like with China, it's worth it, but there is a downside.

Case has always been mighty here in their industrial stuff. The 580 Case backhoe is legendary around here. JD made a little market share out of the 410 extendahoe ... Rode a few of those... but that Case is still king.

But JD had AG locked up here until Kubota showed up. A hungry little one horse dealer west of town who would bend over backwards for customers. And the machinery was good. And the parts system was way better than JD.

Now Kubota is fat and sassy, Still better than JD around here... but I am starting to see TYM and KIOTI - TYM buying Branson has some to do with that, as they were pretty heavy west of here.

We ain't big iron up in here... You won't see much past 100 hp machines here. Too rocky and too small. But we do tons of hay, and some farming. and tons and tons of ranches using say, 60 hp stuff..

We always stayed in 35-50hp range, And the last tractor we have is an old JD. But I would not buy them today. That old machine, maybe '01... Getting hard for parts.
