When I married my husband in 2009 he insisted that I start wearing dresses at home and when I was out in public. The author of the article is spot on that you get treated differently when you look like a lady. Men treat you better, most women treat you better, but some "women" get outraged at you for having the nerve to look and act like a lady.

Oddly, these same pathetic creatures have no objection when males dress up like proper ladies.

I caught a few minutes of "I Love Lucy" the other day, and thought the styles on the ladies were fantastic. Fred Mertz's pants reminded me of Jerry Nadler, though, considering the waist was somewhere around the armpits.

Boomers can tell me if I'm off base.  Yes the attire was classier.  But much of the reason why young ladies were more attractive in the 1950s is because they were smaller.  Some of them wore girdles so they could pull off the "hourglass" image.  But most just had more self respect.  They were about half as likely to smoke as men, and their day-to-day activity burned off calories.

I have stood as such a woman sought to speak redress to my person, me doing little but standing hat in hand, digging a toe in the dirt. All these years, and my long age has not changed that.

Do take note though, that while the attire does assume station, there is expected conduct that actually supplies the power.

Totally agree. I always love seeing the hats!

(Frankly, I never saw Fred in anything that his pants weren't under his armpits. And it broke my heart when I saw Clint Eastwood have to adopt the same style. )

True but you're trying to keep cool. You're still dressed modest. I see some women where all but their nipples are showing and another inch shorter and you'd be able to see their hoo ha.

And today, not only do they put that up in your face, but you're not supposed to look at it.

She looks like a Lady and carries it well from the images. Unless her actions belie that, she can generally expect to be treated as a Lady.

As far as guys reaction to that, many of us recall when our mothers dressed that way, and the respect is automatic for us.

Yeah, I grant the undisciplined eye will migrate to the cleavage. It's hardwired from birth, looking for lunch. Only the thought in my youth, that 'if I was ever going to do more than look then I'd do better to learn what color her eyes were' finally overcame that instinct.
Watching other guys be told "I'm up here." Just made it that much more fun.
