CNN’s Jim Acosta Corrects Democratic Senator Who Falsely Suggested JD Vance Never Served In Military

CNN anchor Jim Acosta on Wednesday corrected Democratic Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith live on-air as she falsely suggested vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance never served in the military.

Smith said she was “unaware” of Vance serving in the military in an attempt to praise presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s service in the Army National Guard. Acosta pointed out that Vance enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and served time in the Iraq War.
 
“Well here is Tim Walz who enlisted when he was 17 years old. He served in the National Guard for 24 years and I’m not aware of any military service that J.D. Vance has ever served, so let’s just make the comparison there,” Smith told Acosta.
“Well, he was in the Marines,” Acosta interjected, to which Smith accepted.

Probably did not want to be deluged by corrections from Marines, serving and otherwise, who would set the record straight for a brother Marine, for starters.

Maybe a Stopped Clock event, maybe what @Smokin Joe suggested, plus or minus a CNN exec or three not wanting the predictable email and text-message deluge.
