Have built those kinds of cold frames in the bottom pic - they are excellent for winter gardening and starting early plants.

Kind of like this. However, I would have to stock it only when guests arrive. Could not leave it out in weather.
The summer would cook it all into oblivion, if the neighborhood kids didn't break into it first.
