What is the Republican National Convention?
Republicans will gather at Fiserv Forum convention site from July 15-18 to officially name former President Donald Trump the party’s nominee for the November election.
Trump is also expected to announce his pick to run for vice president.
Trump has not announced his decision yet but sources confirmed to NewsNation last month that he has narrowed his potential running mate list to North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator JD Vance and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

The theme for July 15 will be “Make America Wealthy Once Again,” focusing on the economy.
The theme for July 16 will be “Make America Safe Again,” centering on crime and illegal immigration.
The theme for July 17 will be “Make America Strong Again,” highlighting national security and foreign policy.
The theme for July 18 will be the more general “Make America Great Once Again," to conclude the convention.PlatformThe 2020 Republican National Convention did not produce a new platform, instead reusing the 2016 platform and producing a document affirming support for Trump.[61]
The 2024 convention is expected to produce a new platform,[62] and the platform committee will be led by Randy Evans, Russ Vought, and Ed Martin.[63]
In May 2024, it was reported in the media that the Trump campaign wanted to shift the platform positions on abortion and same-sex marriage.[64] In June 2024, The New York Times reported that the Trump campaign also wanted to significantly shorten the platform, focusing on contrasting with the Democratic Party instead of providing extensive details on policy.[65] The platform is being drafted the week before the convention, behind closed doors.

North of the convention site, the city will set up a stage on Dr. M.L.K., Jr. Drive near McKinley Avenue with microphones and speakers.
To the south, there will be a stage set up at Zeidler Union Square Park. The city has also designated a parade route for those wishing to march.
The platform has 20 sections of content.[68] The first two sections are on immigration. The next four sections are on the economy. The seventh section is on civil rights. The next six sections are on foreign policy. The next two sections are on the economy. The next three sections are on education. The 19th section is on elections. The last section is the conclusion.
