I just wish I had known where to find him.  I was in Norfolk ten days before he passed.

I hope he knew that we cared about him.

I think that he did, otherwise he wouldn't have told us to not pray for him so many times (of course we did the opposite) when he shared stories or was headed for the hospital.

I'll never forget when he was having problems getting an appointment through the VA...long story short, I said I was going to pray for him.  That was met with his disapproval, but several weeks passed and lo and behold he conveyed that a nurse out of the blue called him and told him he had an appointment.  I couldn't help but raise the question as to how that just happened out of the blue?

I found it interesting that he hung around the prayer thread so much, given his stated aversion to Christianity, and suspect he did appreciate the concern we expressed through our prayers. Everyone wants to know someone else cares about him.

Arthur would always pm me when he was sick and going to the ER...and told me that if I didn't hear from him the worst had happened. One time when he was very sick and going to the ER I suggested that I post this on the prayer thread...NO, he said...I then suggested I would post that *a member is in need of prayers* without mentioning his name...he was okay with that..lol

In March I got 5 pm's about him going to the VA and the ER..he said he was so sick with the flu..those were the last pms I got..he then disappeared in April...

I emailed him many times in April, May, June and July with no response..that's when I feared the worse...but he didn't die until July....did he get my emails?...did he read them?

I even questioned if I had the right email address although none of those emails were returned...

I am deeply saddened and feel so bad that I couldn't make contact with him... :crying:

I tried to get a hold of him, too, through PMs here. I had to go out to where I have a '39 international Pickup stored and check, but if the radiator was good, I'd send it to him because it would fit the '37 that he only lacked a radiator for. I don't anticipate having the time or money to restore mine, and his was just a radiator short. I needed to know where to ship it.
Now, the '39 will go up for auction with other vehicles where it is stored, with the radiator still in it.
I have daily missed his commentary and stories, would have loved to meet him in person, and miss him like a brother.

My last long PM with him was late in the winter... feb/march - ish... You know I was looking for him too, shortly after that... Something must have happened in the spring...  march/april or so
I take it he was hospitalized and sent into hospice through the interval.

He surely would have made contact here if he could.  :crying:

A year or two ago I shared a picture of a mug one of my co-workers gave me when I was on chemo. It said: "The chemo made me do it." Sneaky LOVED it! Said he wanted to buy one for himself. Unfortunately it had been at least 10 years since I had been gifted the mug. I couldn't find another one, so I assumed it was no longer being produced. Every so often I would do a search to see if I could find him one. Several months ago, I did find one on eBay and told him about it. He checked it out, but it seemed that he'd lost his enthusiasm for it. Said the price was too high. It was under $20 for the mug + shipping. Not bad in today's world. But he wanted no part of it. As an afterthought, he told me that, just in case I was thinking about getting it for him (I was), NOT to do it. He said it was overpriced and didn't want it for that reason.

In light of all that's happened, I wonder what was going on with his health at the time we were having that exchange. It seems like it was just shortly after that when he stopped showing up on the board. As everyone knows, it was highly unusual to show up here without seeing Sneaky's name listed as being online.

I'm sad that he is gone. As others have said, I profoundly hope that he abandoned his atheism and came to know the Lord. He was certainly an enthusiastic contender for keeping America a strong republic. He'll be missed.

The last email I have from him is also in March. He said he was feeling better, and not to worry about him .

I once told him that he was "a really lovely man" for corresponding with me, and he said no one had ever called him that. He wasn't sure how to take it, so I said something about how he cares for all of us here and his stray cats.

I do recall he said an ex will take care of his personal cats if and when he passes. So we don't have to worry about that.

I just can't seem to find the name or url of the cat charity he liked- to be honest, I start to cry when I see a post of his.

Strange how when one of us leaves this forum there is a huge hole here. So everyone stay safe.

Sneakypete had quite a few posters who remember him on Free Republic, despite leaving in 2003. It says a lot about the impact he had on people, that those who knew him only casually from online remember him twenty years later.

I think he liked the image of being a crotchety old fart, but it’s hard to pull that off convincingly when everyone knew he was just a big softy taking care of all those feral cats. Yes he will be missed for a  long time to come, not many are made from the mold he came from.
