Rand Paul, Mike Lee Condemn ‘Unconstitutional’ Biden Security Guarantees to Ukraine

Sean Moran 21 Jun 2024

Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced a resolution on Friday condemning President Joe Biden’s “unconstitutional” security guarantees to Ukraine.

Biden extended security guarantees to Ukraine for the next ten years, which will help Ukraine boost its defense industrial base and push Ukraine closer to joining NATO.
Politico reported:

But there’s a major catch: The deal is only between the current administrations of the U.S. and Ukraine and won’t be ratified by Congress. Should former President Donald Trump reenter the Oval Office in January, he could rip up the agreement, reneging on Washington’s commitment.

That makes the announcement a high-stakes gamble by President Joe Biden, who has put American credibility on the line in hopes of reassuring Ukraine and European allies, even if he can’t guarantee the deal will last 10 months –– let alone 10 years. But it could also draw a stark contrast with his Republican opponent, marking Biden as a transatlantic champion and Trump an unreliable ally.

“A lasting peace for Ukraine must be underwritten by Ukraine’s own ability to defend itself now, and to deter future aggression,” Biden said. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky called the signing of the agreement an historic day.

Senators Paul and Lee have nothing to worry about here.  A security guarantee from Biden is worthless.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

It's not unconstitutional for a President to make a promise about what he would do during the rest of his term.  There may be some unconstitutional component if he tries to execute that promise, but the making of the promise itself is perfectly legal.

I am thankful for Senators like Paul and Lee.  They are few and far between.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

His "commitment" is not a constitutionally binding treaty. Calling it "unconstitutional" is partisan hyperbole. I'm not LIEden lover, but the exaggeration, hyperbole, and hysteria need to be left to LIEden so the contrast between LIEden's crazy and reality are starkly clear.

Exactly.

And this is exactly why I detest it when conservatives overstate their case.  You've got Biden out there in unadulterated videos clearly showing signs of decline.  But you also have idiot bloggers, Youtubers, etc., putting out "enhanced" versions of those videos that are clipped, or where a tic is shown repeatedly as if it happened multiple times, or otherwise edited to make it look even worse, and then the Dems pounce on those videos as evidence of "false accusations".

Conservatives making bad arguments plays right into the hands of the left.  That's why we have to police ourselves and ensure our poop is all in one sock before getting out there and mixing it up with the other side.
