DNC Switches to ‘Virtual Nomination’ for Biden to Avoid Floor Fight

No, Michelle Obama isn't sweeping in at the last minute.

May 29, 2024 by Daniel Greenfield

Officially the reason that the DNC is going with a ‘virtual roll call’  for the Biden nomination is the issue in Ohio. But Gov. DeWine has offered to quickly pass a bill to make sure that Biden will still be on the ballot.

The DNC’s decision to switch to a virtual roll call may be exploiting worries about Ohio, but like the rest of its campaign decisions has more to do with locking in the nomination for Biden while avoiding a floor fight.

Most people refused to believe me when I told them that Biden would run or the party would nominate him. Most people I talk to still believe that Newsom (or even more implausibly Michelle Obama) are going to swoop in at the convention. And while nothing is absolutely impossible including Biden being replaced by Alf, if that were going to happen, it likely would have happened already. Democrats had plenty of time to get it done.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Agree.

Sure, there are probably things the head honchos at DNC headquarters could do to somehow replace Biden. But they won't do it. Doing  nothing is the path of least resistance

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

The problem is that there isn't anyone they could nominate who wouldn't divide their party.  And this close to the election, there isn't enough time to repair the damage.

This stupid issue of getting on the ballot in Ohio has handed the Democrats a great excuse to nominate Biden early.  Which also means that there isn't going to be a nomination night in Chicago, and that reduces the motivation for lefty, pro-Palestinian riots at the Convention.  Biden likely won't even speak live so we won't get the optics of rioters preventing him from going.

All because some of my fellow Buckeyes are morons, and thought it would be cute to try to keep him off the ballot in Ohio.

Nice move, you idiots.

We had a poster here recently who believed that they would replace Biden at the convention with a Moderate Democrat like Andy Beshear(sp), the Governor of Kentucky. He would easily beat Trump

But that wouldn't  sit well with the progressive wing of the party that's very vocal and active

Right.  And trying to replace Kamala with anyone but another black woman would be terrible optics for them.
