Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi's 'life is at risk' after he was involved in a helicopter crash near the border with Azerbaijan.

A frantic search mission is underway after the aircraft, which was traveling in Iran's East Azerbaijan province near Jolfa, around 375 miles northwest of Tehran, suffered a 'hard landing', according to Iranian state television.

The helicopter was one of a convoy of three and foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Friday prayer Imam Seyyed Mohammad-Ali Al-Hashem and other high-ranking officials were also reportedly on the helicopter with the president.

The lives of President Raisi and foreign minister Amirabdollahian are at risk following the crash over mountain terrain, an Iranian official told Reuters.

President Raisi’s helicopter crashes in Iran: What we know so far

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has yet to be found, despite conflicting reports that the location where his helicopter went down had been found.

But those reports were quickly dismissed by the Iranian Red Crescent and the world continues watching Iranian emergency crews searching for Raisi in a remote area near Jolfa in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province where his helicopter went down, while the rest of the convoy continued.

Raisi was returning from Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, where he and the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated a cooperative dam project, the latest sign of warming relations between the two countries. Twenty rescue teams as well as an unknown number drones have been sent to the area where the helicopter came down.

Information is slowly emerging on this incident, but here is what we know so far.
What happened?

Reports of a helicopter in the president’s convoy crashing first circulated on social media and were quickly picked up by local media. An initial report by the state-linked Mehr news website said Raisi had opted to travel to Tabriz by car due to the foggy weather conditions, and that he was safe.

The news was subsequently taken down after state television confirmed that the missing helicopter was carrying Raisi and the other officials. State television said the helicopter suffered a “hard landing”.
Who was in the helicopter?

Travelling with Ebrahim Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to East Azerbaijan, according to state media.
Did all three helicopters disappear?

No, two of the three helicopters in the president’s convoy made it back safely to the city of Tabriz.

Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and Housing and Transportation Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash were in the helicopters that made it back safely...................

Jake Sullivan and Susan Rice are in mourning.  Expect Biden to cut off all aid to Israel over this.

Iranian officials detect exact location of Raisi's helicopter crash site

Military crews are heading to the exact location of the crash site of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a military commander in the region said, according to state news agency IRNA.

A signal was received from the helicopter and the mobile phone of one of the crew members at the crash site, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander for East Azerbaijan province, where the crash occurred.

"Military forces are heading to the location and hope to have some good news," the commander said, according to IRNA.

Turkey says it will send night vision rescue helicopter to aid Iran in its search

Iran has requested assistance from Turkey in the search for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's crashed helicopter, the Turkish disaster and emergency management ministry said Sunday.

Iran requested a night vision search and rescue helicopter, the ministry said.

Turkey is also sending six vehicles and 32 mountaineer search and rescue personnel to Iran, according to the ministry.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on X that his government is "following the incident closely, in full contact and coordination with the Iranian authorities."

"On behalf of my nation, I convey my get well wishes to our neighbor, friend and brother Iranian people and government, and I hope to receive good news from Mr. President and his delegation as soon as possible," Erdoğan added.

Remember: It's about 11 p.m. local time in the remote, mountainous East Azerbaijan Province where the president's helicopter went down. Even in daylight, dense fog in the area had hindered the search effort.

Raisi’s death wouldn’t change Iranian policy, but would spark fight for power

It is too early to know the fate of Iran’s president and foreign minister after their helicopter crashed in northwestern Iran Sunday, but initial signs don’t look especially promising.

An Iranian official told Reuters that while authorities are “still hopeful,” the information coming from the crash site is “very concerning.”

The lives of President Ebrahim Raisi, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, are “at risk,” the official added.

Though the deaths of two senior Iranian officials would be a dramatic development at a time when multiple conflicts are raging in the region, it likely would not affect the course of those fights significantly, with decisions over foreign policy and war under the purview of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

“The president of the Islamic Republic is an implementer, not a decision-maker,” explained Jason Brodsky, policy director at United Against Nuclear Iran. “So the policies of the Islamic Republic, the fundamentals of those policies, will remain the same.”..............

[/Sarcasm] Jolfa is as close to Ukraine as it is to Israel. I blame all those Ukrainian Nazis! They're POed that Iran gives drones to Putin. [/Sarcasm]

More seriously, choosing to fly a helicopter in poor visibility conditions was a high-risk choice. And how well the Iranians maintain their helicopters is worth considering as well. I'm thinking, absent actual information, that this cigar may be nothing more than a cigar.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

A signal was heard from the helicopter which is a perhaps a sign that he's still alive.
