Residential and commercial buildings throughout the United States are in the bull’s eye of a White House plan “intended to help move the building sector to net-zero emissions.”

A “pre-decisional” draft released with little fanfare in January outlines the vast scope of an initiative aimed at nothing less than the decarbonization of one of the nation’s largest economic sectors.


Couched in the turgid bureaucratic prose common to regulatory schemes, the White House draft seeks a “broadly accepted minimum definition of a zero-emissions building.” “The intent of the National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building,” it says, “is to create a standardized, consistent, measurable basis for zero emissions buildings.”

“This clear market signal and consistent target, backed by measurable data,” are intended “to influence the design and operation of buildings to substantially reduce building sector emissions.”  In other words, the same people intent on forcing the driving public to buy EVs, and to mandate “all-electric” appliances in the nation’s kitchens, now see themselves as architects of resilient green structures that can withstand anything the climate throws at them.

I'm sure there's more heinousness to coerce adoption of uneconomical technology.

Many trucks will spend much time in traffic jams in the Northeast.  Hmmm, would there be talk of a high speed lane set aside for electric trucks?

Also, would there be scuttlebutt about charging additional/higher tolls for internal combustion engine trucks?

Even though an electric truck without any freight would outweigh its ICE equivalent, and thus do more damage to the roads...

How far will an electric truck tractor go on a single charge?

And how long will it take to RECHARGE when the battery gets low?

How many "recharge breaks" will be needed for a long trip?

What happens to the concept of "time-sensitive" shipments, like produce, etc.?

Where will the energy come from to run these recharging stations?

It will make rail shipments much more competitive, at least in terms of "time".

Your thinking like a democrat didn't go quite far enough.  Speed lanes for trucks won't be the answer, not allowing ICE vehicles on E-ways will be.

It's almost funny, but just sad that it would take more rest/recharge stops for the dang truck than is required for the driver **nononono*
