The Supreme Court has betrayed democracy. Its members including Jackson, Kagan and Sotomayor have proved themselves inept at reading comprehension. And collectively the "court" has shown itself to be corrupt and illegitimate.

It must be dissolved.

Raskin: SCOTUS ‘Punted’ on Trump Ballot — ‘It’s Up to Congress to Act’

Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Tuesday on CNN’s “Newsroom” that the Supreme Court unanimously overturning a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that disqualified former President Donald Trump from the ballot was SCOTUS punting.

Punting?  No.  The Constitution is the Supreme Law of our Land and the SCOTUS just ruled unanimously -- there is no punting and there is no Congressional action needed.

Taken in context, the Democrat definition of what they call "Democracy" is a one-party fascist totalitarian State. When you understand the definitions, Keith is exactly right. SCOTUS did betray the Liberals' version of how they view democracy.

"Nation of Laws" - Which law is applicable to keep Trump off ballot?  NONE

The Congress and DOJ were unwilling to use due process to convict Trump at impeachment or at trial for insurrection.

Don't blame SCOTUS for the failures of Congress and DOJ to protect the US Consitution from enemies, domestic and foreign.

So much for your precious DC elitist "guard rails" and "institutions".

Fox News host urges Trump to show ‘humility’ after Supreme Court ruling
by Dominick Mastrangelo - 03/04/24 2:29 PM ET

Fox News host and former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) urged former President Trump not to take a victory lap after the Supreme Court ruled that states cannot bar him from the ballot in this fall’s presidential election.

“I would encourage him to do something that he doesn’t often do, which is show humility because there are other decisions that are coming that he may not agree with,” Gowdy said on Fox’s air on Monday. “I don’t think he’s going to win the presidential immunity case before the court.”

Maine secretary of state withdraws Trump ballot ban

Maine’s secretary of state on Monday withdrew her determination that former President Trump should be blocked from the state’s ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause after the Supreme Court ruled in Trump’s favor.

“The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that individual states lack authority to enforce Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment with respect to federal offices,” Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows wrote in a modified ruling, obtained by The Hill. “Consistent with my oath and obligation to follow the law and the Constitution, and pursuant to the Anderson decision, I hereby withdraw my determination that Mr. Trump’s primary petition is invalid.”

“As a result of the modified ruling, votes cast for Mr. Trump in the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election will be counted,” Bellows continued.

Democrats announce bill to kick Trump OFF the ballot immediately after the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he could be allowed to stay on: The left melts down over ruling and even calls for court to be DISBANDED

The high court on Monday ruled 9-0 that only Congress, not Colorado, can ban Trump from the ballot and the former president must be reinstated
Bill would 'revive legislation that we had to set up a process by which we could determine that someone who committed insurrection is disqualified'

I'm expecting that evil Joe starts to pack the Supreme Court -- he still has a DEM Senate majority.  There is no limits are magic number of justices in the Constitution -- one flaw -- and it could be a costly one right now.

The DEMS introducing a bill - but it would also be up for appeal??

IF Trump wins the nomination or possibly the WH I do anticipate that they refuse to certify the election, just like they accused the GOP of trying to get Pence to do.

Funny how the shoe is now on the other foot and the DEMS are having an absolutely meltdown.

I'm tempted now to vote Trump just on principle.

A lot of people are saying that. Even people who do not like Trump (including some minorities) will vote for him just because of how the Democrats have persecuted him. The Democrats are making Trump the person a secondary issue.

A vote for Trump has become a vote against a corrupt government and a corrupt judicial system. A vote for Trump has evolved into a vote against tyranny and totalitarianism.

But only five justices hold that the *only* way to enforce Section 3 against federal officeholders/officeseekers is through a statute enacted by Congress. The other four wouldn't (and don't) reach that question.
So 5-4 on breadth.

@steve_vladeck
The Barrett concurrence and the joint Sotomayor/Kagan/Jackson concurrence all insist that they would've stopped with barring a state from disqualifying a presidential candidate.
That's why it's a 5-4 ruling with respect to the scope of the holding.

The four not in the majority essentially are saying that a federal court convicting someone of rebellion/insurrection might be able to impose that penalty, not just Congress.

Although the court ruled correctly in his favor regarding the Colorado case, Trump would still be an economic and fiscal train wreck waiting to happen if he were to be re elected president

Absolutely. But that doesn't negate the fact that the SC ruled correctly.

The decision:

Trump v. Anderson
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Here's how the the opinion of Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson starts out.  Paragraph 2:

Today, the Court departs from that vital principle, deciding not just this case, but challenges that might arise in the future. In this case, the Court must decide whether Colorado may keep a Presidential candidate off the ballot on the
ground that he is an oathbreaking insurrectionist and thus
disqualified from holding federal office under Section 3 of
the Fourteenth Amendment.

Gee, no bias there.

Yes, very well stated.  I'm just not so confident that Trump will deliver like people assume that he will.  He has had a tendency of not doing what he says in the past. He has nothing to restrain him as he won't be rallying to serve another four years.

What keeps lurking in the back of my mind and I can't help but question if there is still the possibility that he could in the end wind up being part of the swamp; thus perhaps him wanting retribution is on the swap creatures that betrayed him. I honestly have my doubts about him. He's gone after conservatives and against the principles of conservatism twice in campaigning; Cruz and DeSantis. How can that not be questioned or at least taken into consideration before casting a vote for him especially since one of his VP picks is quite a liberal, turned independent to campaign for Bernie Sanders of all people?

There's just too much ambiguity surrounding Trump.  There is about 8 months till election day and a lot can still happen. If I pull that lever for Trump I have to be more confident in doing so.  Pulling that lever on principle alone?  I'm tempted but not yet convinced it's the right choice.

I'm tempted now to vote Trump just on principle.

I feel that pull every once in a while.  But then someone like @Right_in_Virginia or @DCPatriot shows up and reinforces why I don't want to vote for him.

Conway: SCOTUS Reverse on Trump Ballot Ban Incoherent, ‘Shoddy Legal Work All Around’

Attorney George Conway said Monday on CNN’s “The Source” that the Supreme Court unanimously overturning a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that disqualified former President Donald Trump from the ballot was “shoddy legal work all around by all the justices.”
