Some scientists have a new idea that could help fix climate change: Dry out the sky
Story by Doyle Rice, USA TODAY • 43m

It may sound like the plot of an old James Bond movie, but an idea to "dehydrate the stratosphere" to slow climate change is real.

In a study released Wednesday in Science Advances, researchers propose a controversial geoengineering strategy to reduce global warming, one that involves dehydrating the stratosphere by removing water vapor – the most abundant greenhouse gas.

Indeed, although greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane are the most important drivers of human-caused climate change, water vapor remains the most common greenhouse gas. Removing it from the atmosphere would help mitigate climate change, study authors say.

In the study by researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, scientists suggest trying what they call "intentional stratospheric dehydration."

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
So turn the world into a desert. Sounds like an excellent proposition.

Rain comes from clouds, clouds block the Sun, less Sun cools the Earth, global warming is negated.

But hey, let's ramp it up the other way.
The Republic is lost.

  • WE are NOT ok!
:thud:   What a bunch of looney tunes!
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

It would be a challenge to come up with a stupider idea that this one.

I suspect it won't keep some people from trying.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
I suppose, theoretically, one could stick one's head so far up one's arse they would disappear.

Considering there seem to be a great number already well on their way, I suggest we encourage them to continue, forthwith, and leave the Planet alone.

After all, the planet has been here for a lot longer, and most of that without the intervention of any scientists at all.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

WTF?

Isn't that what precipitation does?

How much is this Green New Squeegie going to cost us, only to fail?

Moisture moderates temperatures.  Along the coast, the Ocean temperatures make it more temperate in Winter and cooler in Summer.  Dry air allows temperatures to change faster and can make temperature changes more extreme.

During Winter, the Dew Point is the lowest temperature that air can fall to.  On dry, cloudless, windless nights, radiational cooling allows Winter temperatures to drop precipitously after sunset.

Man is not omnipotent enough to regulate the Earth's climate with a thermostat, humidifier, and de-humidifier.  Then there's the volcano, solar cycle, and asteroid strike problems.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
Some believe the global climate apocalypse will be brought on by the use of so called "Fossil Fuels", I believe it far more likely to brought on by so called "Scientists" 9999hair out0000
