
Chloroquine, which has a nasty habit of extending the q-t interval until the heart bradys out, if the dosage is excessive, does have a troubled history. Brazilian doctors did a study, administering over 12,000 mg in a week, and patients died (the LD50 is only about 3500 mg.). They had to stop the study, because they were poisoning the patients.
CNN reported the study as having been stopped because the patients were dying (but not
why), and as if Hydroxychloroquine and Chloroquine were the same thing.
My mother had been taking HCQ for RA, and other people I knew took it for Lupus, both accepted uses aside from its antiparasitic properties, so I knew the whole campaign against the drug was bullshit.
