Linda Lavin Dies: ‘Alice’ Star & Tony-Winning Broadway Actor Was 87

Linda Lavin, the beloved veteran stage and TV actress known for her Emmy-nominated role in the 1976 sitcom Alice and for her Tony-winning performance in the 1986 play Broadway Bound, died today, Dec. 29. She was 87.

The news comes as a shock as Lavin has been working as recently as this month, promoting her new Netflix series No Good Deed and filming the upcoming Hulu comedy series Mid-Century Modern, on which she is one of the leads. She died unexpectedly due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer, her PR representative told Deadline.

A former child stage actor, Lavin started her Broadway career in the 1960s, appearing in the musical It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman as as well as the plays Little Murders and Last of the Red Hot Lovers, which earned her the first of three Drama Desk Awards and the first of six Tony Award nominations, respectively.

Being older and retired, Bidenomics didn't bite me as bad as was in 1979 as  22 year old just starting a a career.  No gas, long lines for gas, nightly reminders of Iranian Hostages , and most of all paying what seemed 5% more each time I went to the grocery store. 

There's a piece of me deep down that resents Jimmuh more than Pedo Joe.  At least for personal impact.

In Carter's case, he did better after he was POTUS than when he was, imho.
That redeems the man somewhat in my eyes, and he got to live long enough to be the third worst president...

I must be one of the few people who believe that Carter’s post-presidency legacy was, despite some mitigating work like Habitat for Humanity, far worse morally than his presidency.

Michael Cole, best known for his role in The Mod Squad, has died. He was 84.

On Dec. 10, the late actor — who made his mark as Pete Cochran in the 1960s police drama — died peacefully "surrounded by his loved ones after living a full and vibrant life," his rep confirmed in a press release.

"Cole’s talent, combined with his magnetic presence, made him a defining figure of the era," the release stated. "The Mod Squad not only made him a household name but also broke barriers by addressing themes of racial and social justice, with Cole’s performance helping to bring authenticity and heart to the series.  ...

After The Mod Squad aired its final episode, Cole went on to appear in Murder, She Wrote, Fantasy Island, Wonder Woman and The Love Boat. Former Democratic Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman has died at age 82.

Lieberman was also the running mate for Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore, making him the first Jewish nominee. He went on to play a key role in the centrist No Labels third-party movement.

His family announced in a statement that the cause of his death was due to complications resulting from a fall.

“Former United States Senator Joseph I. Lieberman died this afternoon, March 27, 2024, in New York City due to complications from a fall. He was 82 years old,” the statement reads. “His beloved wife, Hadassah, and members of his family were with him as he passed. Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family, and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest.”
