The head of Israeli military intelligence resigned on Monday over the failures surrounding Hamas’ unprecedented Oct. 7 attack, the military said, becoming the first senior figure to step down over his role in the deadliest assault in Israel’s history.

Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva’s resignation could set the stage for more resignations among Israel’s top security brass over Hamas’ attack, when militants blasted through Israel’s border defenses, rampaged through Israeli communities unchallenged for hours and killed 1,200 people, most civilians, while taking roughly 250 hostages into Gaza. That attack set off the war against Hamas in Gaza, now in its seventh month.

“The intelligence directorate under my command did not live up to the task we were entrusted with. I carry that black day with me ever since, day after day, night after night. I will carry the horrible pain of the war with me forever,” Haliva wrote in his resignation letter, which was provided by the military.

Haliva, as well as other military and security leaders, were widely expected to resign in response to the glaring failures that led up to Oct. 7 and the scale of its ferocity.

I know no such thing about the future @Cyber Liberty.  No one does.  But, success does demand less from Western governments, including our own, and more from the neighborhood players.

It also sounds like you're saying Israel has tried a two state solution time and again, but, I don't think that's correct.  If my knowledge of history serves, the closest Israel has come to even beginning the two state journey was under Rabin ---- and he was assassinated, by Israelis.

It seems to me what Israel has tried "time and again" under the tutelage of Benjamin Netanyahu and his Party has been to divide the West Bank and Gaza Strip --- keeping them political enemies to prevent a Palestinian state.  I've posted two or three articles on this very topic. --- Netanyahu's favorite argument has always been:  these two guys can't get along, so I have no one to negotiate with, shucks. 

This is the reason Bibi approved transfers of more than a billion dollars from Qatar to Hamas through the years, his last approval in Sep 2023.  He was buying silence from Hamas ---- content Hamas couldn't possible spend that money on tunnels and weapons ---- so he could focus on settlements in the West Bank.  This is how Oct 7 happened.

After the Boston bombing the news media spent days and weeks trying to determine why these men did what they did.  They want to know what America did to make these brothers so angry with us. 

They want to know why these men were not arrested before they did something so terrible.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged not to give Israel the benefit of a “double standard” amid a controversy with Jerusalem about potential sanctions on an Israeli military unit.

“Do we have a double standard? The answer is no,” Blinken told reporters Monday at the State Department. “We apply the same standard to everyone, and that doesn’t change whether the country in question is an adversary, a competitor, a friend, or an ally.”

Blinken offered that commitment to impartiality at the publication of an annual report on human rights around the world that numbered Israel among the countries with “significant human rights issues.” While Blinken stopped short of offering a judgment on war crimes allegations, the report’s unveiling coincides with a dispute between U.S. and Israeli officials on a potential finding that an Israel Defense Forces unit has committed human rights violations deserving of sanctions.

“I think a good example of a process that is very deliberate, that seeks to get the facts, to get all the information, that has to be done carefully,” Blinken said. “And that’s exactly how we proceeded, as we proceed with any country that is the recipient of military assistance from the United States. And again, the same standard applies.”

It scares the liver out of me to have Biden/Dems in the White House. They have a massive amount of tolerance for Muslims; zero for Christians and even non-believing Americans who are conservative. Hamas published a propaganda video of Israeli-American dual citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin on Wednesday, marking the first sign of life from the 23-year-old since he was abducted by the terror group on Oct. 7.

In the video, a gaunt-looking Goldberg-Polin identified himself as Israeli and said he had been held captive for “nearly 200 days,” suggesting that the video was taken recently, the Times of Israel noted.

Goldberg-Polin is seen with a buzzed haircut and missing his left arm from below the elbow.

The strangest part of this current global "Pali-Circus" is that IF the Arabs in Israel who call themselves Palestinians ever managed to achieve their stated goal of killing all non-Muslims in Israel, and IF they managed to 'take over' and establish a new Muslim State in Israel, they would be immediately attacked by every Muslim Nation in the Middle East.

Egypt would come in from the South, Syria/Lebanon would come in from the North, and Jordan would come in from the East. A new Arab Palestinian state would not last even one hour. U.S. Troops Begin Construction of Biden’s Promised Gaza Aid Pier

U.S. troops have begun construction of a pier to be used to bring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, the Pentagon confirmed Thursday.

“I can confirm that U.S. military vessels, to include the USNS Benavidez, have begun to construct the initial stages of the temporary pier and causeway at sea,” Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said.

The news came on the same day Palestinian terrorists fired mortars at United Nations officials as they toured the proposed pier site, as Breitbart News reported.

A senior military official speaking to reporters on the condition of anonymity said construction of the pier began Thursday and that they are on track for it to be used to delivery humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea from early next month, UPI reports.

Officials confirmed it being constructed out at sea, away from the war in Gaza.

Gaza-based militants launched mortar rounds on Wednesday at Israeli forces making preparations for the U.S.-led effort to establish a new maritime aid route for Gaza, according to three U.S. officials.

No American equipment was damaged as the U.S.-led project — which will establish a pier a few miles offshore as well as a causeway anchored to the beach to expand access to humanitarian aid — is not yet complete, said one of the officials. All were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive plans.

But the attack came as U.S. military personnel were scheduled to soon begin construction of the pier, which the U.S. hopes will drastically expand the amount of aid that can reach the enclave. The Pentagon has said the project will be operational by the end of the month or early May, and U.S. military ships are standing by to start the work.

It’s not clear whether the militants knew what they were attacking, said the first U.S. official, adding that they may have simply seen a “target of opportunity” to strike the Israel Defense Forces.

A “small number of mortars” caused “minimal damage” in Gaza in the vicinity of the “marshalling yard area for humanitarian assistance that will soon be delivered by sea,” said one of the officials, a member of the U.S. military. The attack occurred before U.S. personnel began constructing the floating pier, the official said, noting that “there will be no U.S. forces on the ground in Gaza.”

US backtracks on decision to sanction IDF unit

The United States announced it would halt its decision to sanction an Israel Defense Forces unit.

Last week, it emerged that Secretary of State Antony Blinken would announce sanctions against the IDF’s 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion over alleged crimes committed during its time in the West Bank. On Friday, sources familiar with the matter told Axios that the U.S. was pausing the effort after Israel provided further information about the unit.

The reverse comes after intense flak directed at Blinken from the Israeli government, Congress, and within the administration itself. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew, and other senior officials within the administration were among the most vocal opponents of the move, sources told the outlet.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to fight the move with “all my powers,” and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant painted it as an attack on the entire IDF.

“Gallant directed the defense establishment to act at all levels in order to make clear to the U.S. government the importance of backing up IDF operations, which are carried out according to international law,” the Israeli Ministry of Defense said after the sanctions were announced, according to the news outlet.

Made me chuckle. This is the definition of the Westerner's mindset complete lack of understanding about what 'armed conflict' is about.

Several of the terms used by Blinken to describe 'war' are laughable.

• The entire conflict was started by Hamas attacking unarmed, unaware, civilians (from toddlers to 80, they raped, tortured, and slaughtered them all with no thought of any kind of mercy).

• There has never been any armed conflict ever in history at any time or at any place which did not involve 'civilian casualties'. The very concept of 'zero civilian casualties' is a ridiculous, 'unicorns and dreamland' kind of a childish 'wish'.

• With Hamas, like most guerilla/terrorist warfare units worldwide, they are all "civilians". There is no stark formal identifying delineation between what are called 'civilians' and what are called 'soldiers'. Terrorists are ALL civilian soldiers. There are no "civilians", in the way modern Western nations describe the word. Islamists say this themselves proudly all the time in their propaganda broadcasts. They brag that their civilians (what the West calls civilians) are all ready to fight and die just like any soldier.

• A "Revitalized Palestinian Authority" is another childish wish holdout. It is equivalent to waiting for Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. It is NEVER going to happen. All the other Islamic Nations in the region know this. They all laugh at the West every time they hear this kind of talk. They only thing Arabs respect is force and power. Pie-in-the-sky Western fantasies are a large part of their comedy. "Death to America! Death to Israel!", is not just a slogan with these 7th Century barbarians; it is their way of life.

• PEOPLE ARE HURT AND STARVING AND SICK DURING WARTIME (a war they started by the way). Well STOP THE PRESSES! Who ever heard of this happening, ever? This is a first!? This is a brand new side of starting a war which nobody has ever heard of before. Nobody could have anticipated this! We should broadcast this new unknown phenomenon worldwide. We should have scientists and anthropologists studying and documenting this new anomaly to figure out how it happened, and what is causing it! People get hurt and die in war? Really?

The way to end all of this is for Hamas to stop killing Jews.
Hamas should release the dozen or so hostages that may still be at least somewhat alive.
Hamas should surrender or face annihilation.

That is all. Those are the options to end all of the so-called atrocities. There was "peace" before October 7. It is Hamas who willingly and intentionally brought all of this down upon their own heads.

A dad of three who was believed to be among the Israeli hostages held in Gaza has been confirmed dead, months after two of his children were released from Hamas captivity as part of a cease-fire deal, officials said.

Dror Or, 49, was killed in Kibbutz Be’eri during the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and his body was brought to Gaza, the Israeli government said Thursday.

“We are heartbroken to share that Dror Or who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, had been confirmed as murdered and his body is being held in Gaza,” the government wrote on X.
