George Santos faces expulsion vote next week

New York Republicans are forcing a vote on the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (R-NY) next week, just days after Rep. Mike Johnson's (R-LA) election as speaker.

Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY), flanked by Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), the House majority whip, and fellow New York freshmen, introduced a resolution on Thursday to expel Santos, who faces 23 federal charges including wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The resolution is privileged, meaning House leadership has until next Friday to call a vote. Santos, who is loathed by his New York colleagues, faced an expulsion push in May, but the House instead referred the matter to the Ethics Committee, which has been investigating him since March.

At the time, D'Esposito and his colleagues voted for that motion, expecting the panel to conclude its work by the August recess, but that date came and went with no resolution. He introduced the measure on Oct. 11, shortly after federal prosecutors added 10 new charges against Santos, but had to wait until this week given the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker.

"We would have done this two weeks ago if we weren't in the situation that we were in," D'Esposito, speaking to reporters alongside Reps. Nick LaLota (R-NY) and Mike Lawler (R-NY), each elected in purple districts last year, said.

I'm a pragmatist.

Reducing the number of Republicans in the House ain't such a good idea right now.
Let Mr. Santos work out his legal problems first.
THEN, perhaps, let a vote go forward.

Jes' wonderin'... how has Mr. Santos voting record been?
He may be a bastard.
But... he's OUR bastard, and not one of theirs.

Three-page Ethics Committee summary on its Rep. Santos is pretty scathing.

House Ethics Committee releases scathing report on George Santos
by Mychael Schnell - 11/16/23 10:05 AM ET
The Hill

The House Ethics Committee released its highly anticipated report on Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) on Thursday, referring its findings of “potential violations of federal criminal law” to the Department of Justice.

In a statement accompanying the report, the chairman and ranking member of the panel said there is “substantial evidence” to show that Santos “knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission; used campaign funds for personal purposes; engaged in fraudulent conduct in connection with RedStone Strategies LLC; and engaged in knowing and willful violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to his Financial Disclosure (FD) Statements filed with the House.”

The final product is sure to exacerbate the controversy surrounding Santos, who is facing 23 federal criminal counts and has already endured two expulsion efforts — with a third likely on the horizon.

Yeah but... it'd be nice to actually do the right thing every once in a while. I would say, let's wait and if he's convicted, expel him.

In this case for now do what the democraps would do, and diminishing their numbers by one is something they would never willingly do.

George Santos won’t seek re-election after ethics panel finds he ‘blatantly stole’ from campaign, ‘deceived donors’

Lying Long Island Rep. George Santos leveraged “every aspect” of his successful 2022 House campaign for personal profit, according to a damning new report from the House Committee on Ethics released Thursday.

An hour after the report came out, the 35-year-old announced he would not seek re-election next year, writing on X that “my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time.”

“I will not stand by as I am stoned by those who have flaws themselves,” Santos wrote.

The ethics panel did not make specific recommendations on action against the already-indicted Santos, but it did refer its evidence to the Justice Department.

The committee emphatically declared that the Republican lawmaker “cannot be trusted” and his conduct “warrants public condemnation, is beneath the dignity of the office, and has brought severe discredit upon the House.”

Santos had been under investigation by the 10-member ethics panel since February. He has been adamant that he will not step down from Congress regardless of the findings against him.

Earlier this month, Santos survived an expulsion effort championed by six of his fellow House Republicans from New York.

I am surprised he lasted this long.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

The House will vote to expel George Santos when they finally go back to work after their taxpayer funded TWO WEEK thanksgiving weekend ends this Tuesday.
Santos is now threatening to expose house members that are having extramarital affairs.
Next week is gonna be lit.
