"This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want." -Hannah Arendt

Today's Thoughts For The Day are by General George S. Patton

“A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood.”

“A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.”

“We’re not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we’re going to rip out their living Goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks.”

“Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way. “

“Do everything you ask of those you command.”

“Say what you mean and mean what you say.”

“Many soldiers are led to faulty ideas of war by knowing too much about too little.”

“You are not all going to die. Only two percent of you right here today would die in a major battle. Death must not be feared. Death, in time, comes to all men. Yes, every man is scared in his first battle. If he says he’s not, he’s a liar. Some men are cowards but they fight the same as the brave men or they get the hell slammed out of them watching men fight who are just as scared as they are. The real hero is the man who fights even though he is scared.”

“Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.”

“If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.”

“Do more than is required of you.”

“Moral courage is the most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men.”

“I am a soldier, I fight where I am told, and I win where I fight.”

"The more I see of Arabs the less I think of them."

"Some damn fool once said that flanks have got to be secure. Since then sonofabitches all over the globe have been guarding their flanks. I don't agree with that. My flanks are something for the enemy to worry about, not me. Before he finds out where my flanks are, I'll be cutting the bastard's throat."

"There are four hundred neatly marked graves somewhere in Sicily. All because one man went to sleep on the job. But they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before they did."

In my posts I sometimes highlight something of unique value. Today it is this bit of prescience that Patton penned on July 21, 1945:

"We have destroyed what could have been a good race and we are about to replace them with the Mongolian savage and all Europe with Communism"

The Patton Museum is not far from me.  It's out in the desert on the I-10.

On December 3, 1859, President James Buchanan sent a letter to Congress. It was a time of great turmoil in the nation in the lead-up to the Civil War. In his letter, Buchanan essentially stated that the North’s posturing put fear in Southern hearts and the “antecedents of the President-elect (Lincoln)” justified those fears. He further stated that States had no Constitutional authority to secede and the Union had no Constitutional authority to prevent it. Abraham Lincoln was stunned. The next day, the New York Times wrote:

”The country has to struggle through three months more of this disgraceful imbecility and disloyalty to the Constitution.”

Somehow, that feels familiar.

Today's Thoughts For The Day are from Ted Nugent

 :patriot:

I've always said that I believe in the Second Amendment and I believe in the Constitution, and I will always defend them both.

If you want to save the planet, shut off your air conditioner, ride a bicycle, and live like a caveman. But don't tell me what to do.

Political correctness is intellectual terrorism, and it's ruining our country.

You think you're going to get peace by appeasing people who don't like you? Think again.

I want to get people off their asses and back into the natural world. We need to reconnect with nature and realize our place in it.

I don't have a racist bone in my body. I believe in equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of their race or background.

The best defense against evil is a good offense, and that means being armed and ready to defend yourself and your loved ones.

I will always stand for the freedoms that our founding fathers fought for. I believe in limited government and personal responsibility.

Live life like a 440 Magnum. Kick ass, take names, and never apologize for who you are.

Freedom isn't free, and if some people are offended by my love for this country, tough shit.

I believe in hard work and earning your way. Handouts only breed dependency and a lack of personal pride.

I don't hate anyone. I hate evil and those who promote it. There's a big difference.

You can't fix stupid, but you sure as hell can vote it out of office.

Political correctness is for people who can't handle the truth. I speak my mind and say what needs to be said.

My music is a celebration of freedom and the American spirit. It's a middle finger to the politically correct crowd.

I don't need the approval of others to validate my beliefs. I know what's right for me and my family.

I'm not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, even if it means being called controversial. The truth often is.

I've been blessed with success, and I will always use my platform to fight for the rights of law-abiding citizens.

You can protest and complain all you want, but actions speak louder than words. Get off the couch and make a difference.

I'm a proud American. I love this country and everything it stands for.

At least Phill let Dr Friedman speak! That doesn't happen with many (Hannity) today.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Today's Thoughts For The Day are from Benjamin Disraeli

“There are three types of lies -- lies, damn lies, and statistics.”

“Time is precious, but truth is more precious than time.”

“When men are pure, laws are useless; when men are corrupt, laws are broken.”

“A member of Parliament to Disraeli: 'Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease.'

That depends, Sir,' said Disraeli, 'whether I embrace your policies or your mistress.”

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but to reveal to him his own.”

“Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.”

“How much easier it is to be critical than to be correct.”

“Most people die with their music still locked up inside them.”

“Sir, I shall not defeat you - I shall transcend you.”

“The secret to success is constancy of purpose.”

“He was distinguished for ignorance; for he had only one idea, and that was wrong.”

“Little things affect little minds.”

“One of the hardest things in this world is to admit you are wrong. And nothing is more helpful in resolving a situation than its frank admission.”

“When I want to read a novel, I write one.”

Today's Thoughts For The Day are from Grace Kelly

(Hat tip to @deb  :seeya: )

My father had a very simple view on life: you don’t get anything for nothing. Everything has to be earned, through work, persistence and honesty.

I never say ‘never,’ and I never say ‘always.

It was thanks to Alfred Hitchcock that I understood that murder scenes should be shot like love scenes and love scenes like murder scenes.

For to have complete satisfaction from flowers you must have time to spend with them.

The freedom of the press works in such a way that there is not much freedom from it.

Emancipation of women has made them lose their mystery.

I came to success very quickly. Perhaps too quickly to value it’s importance.

Women's natural role is to be a pillar of the family.

I never really liked Hollywood. I found it unreal - unreal and full of men and women whose lives were confused and full of pain.

Resistance to Jim Robinson is obedience to God.

Thanks, MeganC.
I made the mistake of reading a biography of Grace. Did not paint her in a good light at all. I choose to ignore what I read.  happy77

He quit posting entirely 6/24.

I did so for one reason only.  I do not suffer fools gladly and her pettiness in trying to inform ME about a trivial fact of biology and chemistry, without apology and without any admonition by you were both inexcusable.

Having said that, I miss trying to contribute to the many readers here who have enjoyed a great deal of what I have written, as well as my Friend, Pookie and his wholesale infringement of copyrighted cartoons, which I copy and share, may we both go to prison and share a cell.

Now a thought for the day - something that has been on my mind lo these many years.  If it is too late for you to implement, please pass it on to loved ones for their own good.  Had I only known as a teenager.....

In your youth, avoid sin and selfishly hurting others with all of your power, for the memories of them will haunt you terribly, but there is nothing you can do to correct them. - John Phillip Jaeger

C.S. Lewis was a world-class literary critic. When reading the gospels, he noted:

I have been reading poems, romances, vision literature, legends, and myths all my life. I know what they are like. I know none of them are like this. – The Reason for God - Belief in an Age of Skepticism, by Timothy Keller, p 106

“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy. It is not true, in fact, and nowhere appears in history. Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty. When clear prospects are opened before vanity, pride, avarice, or ambition, for their easy gratification, it is hard for the most considerate philosophers and the most conscientious moralists to resist the temptation. Individuals have conquered themselves. Nations and large bodies of men, never.” – John Adams, 2nd U.S. President

The Führer has always shielded my consistent stance over the years, to the extent he could do so, given his position. Now, with a laugh, he repeatedly emphasized that he has been a pagan all along, and the time has come when the Christian poisoning is approaching its end. -  Alfred Rosenberg Diary.
