On September 23, Russian military patrol planes violated Japanese airspace three times over Rebun Island, located North of Hokkaido.

This information was confirmed by Japan’s Chief Secretary of the Government, as reported by The Yomiuri Shimbun.

In response, the Japanese Air Force deployed fighter jets and issued warnings to the Russian aircraft by launching flares.

Notably, this marks the first occasion on which Japan has utilized flares as a warning against an airspace violation, according to the publication.

Additionally, Tokyo has formally issued an “extremely strict protest” to Moscow regarding the incident, as reported by Kyodo News.  .  .

Zelensky: Trump doesn’t know how to end war and Vance is too radical

The president of Ukraine criticises the Republican nominees as he visits the US to share his plan for victory over Russia

James Kilner  |  23 September 2024  |  1:45pm

Donald Trump doesn’t know how to stop the war in Ukraine, despite claiming he could end it on his first day as US president, Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

In his harshest criticism yet of the Republican presidential nominee, the Ukrainian president also described Trump’s running mate JD Vance as “dangerous” and “too radical”.

“His message seems to be that Ukraine must make a sacrifice,” Mr Zelensky said of Mr Vance in an interview with the New Yorker magazine before he flew to the US to present his “Victory Plan” to the White House this week. “But I believe that we have shielded America from total war.”

Mr Vance has been criticised by supporters of Ukraine for pushing a peace deal that consolidates the Kremlin’s control over captured territory.

Mr Zelensky said such a deal would disrespect the sacrifices that Ukrainian soldiers have made  .  .  .

.  .  .  “Whichever president or vice-president raises this prospect, that ending the war hinges on cementing the status quo, with Ukraine simply giving up its land, should be held responsible for potentially starting a global war,” he said.

Mr Zelensky added that he had held more “positive” conversations with Mr Trump who he said had promised to continue to support Ukraine’s military.

Ukrainian officials have said they are concerned Trump would turn off the supply of weapons Joe Biden has approved for Ukraine, in an attempt to force Mr Zelensky to negotiate with Putin.

But the Ukrainian president insisted Putin could not be trusted and Trump, despite his public stance, would not be able to strike a quick deal to end the war.  .  .

Zelenskiy is making a huge mistake commenting on American politics on US soil.  While his comments about Trump may be accurate, the words were better left unspoken.  Especially on Joe Biden's home turf.

Smoke is clearing over the sites Ukraine hit and what was destroyed and damaged is coming more apparent. This video is nearly 24 minutes long and analyzes what can be seen at the three strike sites:

The parts about the trains and the ammunition refurbishing area are interesting, to me at least.

Yep.

As everybody knows, I'm generally sympathetic about Zelensky, and admire his courage in not taking the ride but asking for the ammo when Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022.  However, I think he made a terrible political and strategic mistake yesterday in allowing himself to be used by the Democrats at the Scranton ammunition factory as a campaign prop for themselves and to bludgeon Trump and Vance.

Not sure why he did that, or if it was a condition of his last batch of military aid, or for securing Biden's permission to hit Russia deep with American weapons, but I think he just doomed himself and Ukraine, since Trump and Vance have long memories.

And they will remember what he did and said yesterday on behalf of Harris and Biden.  And Ukraine will receive no more American help after Inauguration Day.

Putin Ally Warns Russia's Nuclear Weapons in 'Full Combat Readiness'

Newsweek
By Natalie Venegas
Sep 21, 2024

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, warned on Friday that Moscow's nuclear weapons are in "full combat readiness."

Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, tensions between North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries and the Kremlin have continued as NATO leaders have increasingly warned that direct conflict with Moscow is a realistic danger as it has more nuclear warheads than any other country, according to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICANW). This comes after Putin and senior Russian officials have repeatedly threatened nuclear escalation against Kyiv and its Western partners since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

According to Tass, a Russian state news agency, Lavrov said in an interview with Sky News Arabia that while "nobody wants a nuclear war," he warned the country's nuclear weapons are in "full combat readiness."

"We talk about red lines, expecting that our assessments, statements will be heard by intelligent, decision-making people. It is not serious to say that if tomorrow you do not do what I demand of you, we will press the 'red button,'" the Russian foreign minister said. "I am convinced that in such situations, decision makers have an idea of what we are talking about. Nobody wants a nuclear war."

He added that Russia possesses weapons "that will have serious implications for the handlers of the Ukrainian regime."

I'm not saying it was necessarily incorrect, just better not said in front of a media who is hostile to Trump in the months leading up to a US election.

Need I point out Biden is not in the running?

Does Kamala, with all her military prowess and ability as a negotiator on matters of the Border wreaking havoc across the country, have an effing clue how to end the conflict over there? Could she even pick out Ukraine on the map?

I think Trump is likely reasonable enough that Zelenesky could make his case, but Kamala? Sheesh! Instead Zelenesky stepped in it, bigtime, imho.

It's a screw up. If Kamala gets in he's f**ked, If Trump does, he has a chance, and he's rooting for the wrong team.

The Kremlin Pulled Sailors Off The Decrepit Aircraft Carrier ‘Admiral Kuznetsov’ And Sent Them To Fight, And Die, In Ukraine

Forbes
David Axe
Sep 22, 2024

Admiral Kuznetsov, the Russian navy’s only aircraft carrier, hasn’t deployed in eight years—and it’s increasingly unlikely it will ever deploy again. That helps explain why, in recent months, the Kremlin reportedly reassigned the aging ship’s sailors to the army—and sent them into battle in Ukraine.

It’s a startling revelation that underscores the Russian army’s manpower crisis as Russia’s wider war on Ukraine grinds toward its 31st month—and also underlines the decrepit state of the Russian navy’s biggest warships, most of which are Cold War leftovers.

Open-source analyst Moklasen first reported the reassignment of some of the 58,000-ton Kuznetsov’s approximately 1,500-person crew. The sailors formed a so-called “frigate” mechanized battalion within the 1st Guards Tank Army, Moklasen concluded after scouring Russian social media for clues.

The frigate battalion fought around Kharkiv in northern Ukraine before shifting to the Pokrovsk axis in the east. Moklasen surmised that at least one former carrier crewman, Oleg Sosedov, went missing during a Russian attack in Kharkiv on July 23.

That the Russians are apparently pulling people from Kuznetsov isn’t surprising. The Kremlin is taking extreme measures to mobilize the 30,000 fresh troops it needs every month just to replace battlefield losses—killed, wounded and captured—in Ukraine.

I think Trump could end the war by driving down the price of oil and taking away the ability of Russia and Iran to fund their wars.  Zelenskiy is going to find out that Trump could be a much better friend than Biden or Harris ever were.

Zelensky: Trump doesn’t know how to end war and Vance is too radical...

Stupid indeed.

Zelensky should have been more careful in what he said, or not criticize Trump and Vance the way he did at all. He should talk up stopping Russia while in the US and leave the criticism of Trump and the election out of it.

Other leaders can make gaffes and get away with it. Zelensky cannot afford mistakes like this.
