The rail bridge across the Kerch Strait is still not full carrying capacity, so heavier loads have to be carried by ship. A car ferry has considerable capacity for weight and physical volume.

'Lukoil' is a Russian oil company.  It is the Russians who have decided to cease exporting gasoline.  I would be a shock to me if Russia had been exporting gasoline through Ukraine this entire time.  It doesn't make sense that Ukraine would allow that.

The big lesson of the 1970s energy crisies was energy security.

Any nation that received energy from Russia should have anticipated that the supply would be unavailable after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine is not yet a member of the E.U., yet.

Why would Ukraine want to facilitate Russia receiving income by transiting energy through its territory via pipeline?

It is European nations' fault for being too dependent on any one supplier of energy, especially Russia.

Unless Hungary and Slovakia yearn to return to the days of the Stalinist Warsaw Pact, they need to find multiple alternate energy suppliers.  Good luck with building new fossil-fuel pipelines with the Global Climate Change Greens running Europe.

Authorities in the city of Moscow are offering a record signing-on bonus for new recruits to fight in Ukraine, in the latest sign of a scramble to boost Russian troop numbers.

The financial sweetener comes as President Vladimir Putin struggles to recruit soldiers for his army as Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine grinds on in its third year.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin introduced the one-time signing bonus of 1.9 million rubles (about $22,000) for city residents who join the military, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Anyone taking up the offer would earn as much as 5.2 million rubles ($59,600) in their first year of service, the statement added.

Those willing to join the fight in Ukraine can also receive one-time cash payments of about $5,690-$11,390 for injuries, “depending on the severity,” and the family of a soldier killed in action could be paid $34,150.

While Russia’s casualty numbers remain shrouded in secrecy, estimates say the death toll among troops is high. More than 70,000 soldiers were likely killed or wounded in May and June alone  .  .  .

Mentioned further up stream of this thread, the removal of Russia from the Security Council of the United Nation is a good idea.  So, why hasn't anyone in our lame government made that proposal?

Could it be that the military industrial complex that have a lot to say about what is done by this nation does not want that?  After all, all five founding states of the Security Council are the leading producers of weapons in the world.  We must keep that well lubricated for those five states, including Russia.

Makes no sense to impose sanctions and still keep Russia on the Security Council of the UN.  Time for Russia to go.

Trump would be wise to indicate if he becomes POTUS, Russia will be shut down in every facet of economic life until their war ends with Ukraine.

In a bid to curb the widespread leaks about their mounting losses in Ukraine, Russian authorities have decided to confiscate gadgets from their occupying forces. This measure, reported by the Center for National Resistance, aims to restrict communication capabilities among the troops.

The move comes in response to numerous leaks revealing heavy casualties, withholding of payments and systemic abuse soldiers are experiencing inside the Russian. According to reports, soldiers have been using their devices to communicate these losses back home.

The Russian State Duma has mandated that any soldier caught with a gadget will face disciplinary detention of up to 10 days. This new directive is seen as a direct reaction to the flow of sensitive information, which has exposed the grim reality of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Troops have reportedly been complaining to their families about severe rights violations by their commanders, the non-payment of promised wages, significant casualties, and their reluctance to “die in Ukrainian fields.”

Pretty much, plus or minus a tablet or three. Translation is as much art as science. I occasionally use Google Translate to translate emails from Chinese to English, and while the results are usually useful, they are not precise and often need a bit of (very) mental interpretation.

True. For example, common US usage is "cell phone"; common UK usage is "mobile". My daughter lived in China for nearly 5 1/2 years and is fluent in Mandarin. There are things in the west for which Chinese does not have a particular word - they just describe it in a phrase - and some western practices, e.g. hospice care, which has no equivalent in Chinese culture.

According to him, the Russian grouping currently exceeds 520,000 soldiers. By the end of the year, according to Syrskyi, the number of Russian soldiers in Ukraine will increase by 30%, reaching 690,000. Russia is concentrating troops on all fronts, as infantry assaults are currently the most common method of warfare among Russian generals.

Having failed to achieve their plans — capturing Kyiv in three days — Russia is gradually increasing its troop numbers in Ukraine. Initially, the full-scale invasion began with approximately 160,000-200,000 soldiers, according to various sources. The grouping then grew to nearly 330,000, then to 370,000, and by the end of October, about 400,000 Russian soldiers were in Ukraine. Over the next six months, this number increased by at least 100,000 more.

Russia is constantly recruiting people and is willing to pay for it. If the first wave of mobilization offered a reward of about $2,000-3,000 (200,000 rubles) for joining the army, today in Moscow, volunteers are being offered ten times that amount — $20,000 (2 million rubles). Rewards in the regions are smaller but still amount to thousands of dollars, which is a significant sum for cities where the average salary can be $200-$500.
