Two Black Hawk helicopters crash near Fort Campbell; fatalities expected
Story by Kelsey Ables, Adela Suliman • 7h ago

Two U.S. Army helicopters flying out of Fort Campbell crashed Wednesday night in Trigg County, southwestern Kentucky, the post said in a statement.

The HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters operated by the 101st Airborne Division crashed during a “routine training mission” about 10 p.m. local time, the statement from Fort Campbell’s public affairs office said.

The status of crew members is “unknown at this time,” it added, giving no immediate information on casualties.

“The command is currently focused on caring for the service members and their families,” the statement said. “The incident is under investigation.”

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) called it “tough news” on Twitter and wrote that “fatalities are expected.”

I just talked to my neighbor across the street who asked if I had heard about the Black Hawks crashing.  I am so hoping that this does not involve his son.   8888crybaby **nononono*

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters return for a landing. The Army is reporting two such helicopters out of Fort Campbell crashed Wednesday. (Sgt. Steven Galimore/Army)
This is a developing story.

Nine soldiers were killed when two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters flying out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, crashed Wednesday evening, a base official confirmed in a message to Military Times. There were no survivors.

The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. local time in Trigg County, Kentucky, during a “routine training mission,” according to a 101st Airborne Division press release. The helicopters belong to the division’s 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

The division’s deputy commanding general, Brig. Gen. John Lubas, mourned the loss during a Thursday morning press conference on post. He said more details will emerge once the soldiers’ families are notified and an investigation unfolds.

Lubas said the crews were training on flying a two-aircraft formation with night-vision goggles. He added that the helicopters were medical evacuation variants of the Black Hawk.
