Thirteen thousand members of the United States Army were reportedly caught up in a Reply-All email storm in early February.…

Khaki-hued news and recruitment site Military.com last week published an account of the email swarm penned by a serving member of the Army who was granted anonymity to avoid backlash from brass.

The report states that the Reply-All storm started when an Army captain replied to a message from a distribution list called "FA57 Voluntary Transfer Incentive Program". Tragically, the unnamed soldier hit Reply-All instead of just Reply.

Similar happened in my company a few years back...took a couple of days to tame the beast and in the end, a few folks were unemployed for not being very "discrete" about their comments during the fracas...

Back in the olden days of dial-up modems ... Even worse, an endless loop of "out-of-office" e-mails bouncing between two people who are on vacation that crashes the E-mail sever by filling up the disk.

"Reply All/Send to All" is a dangerous thing in a business environment.

I have seen it gone bad more than once.

Funny stories in retrospect, but not when it's happening.

Like the woman in my office who sent an obscene animated .gif to everyone in the company including the CEO.

She was escorted out of the building about 20 minutes later.

There's no "reply all" in the toolbar for Apple's Mail.app on my Mac.
Only "reply".

I customized the toolbar and took all the unnecessary stuff out...
