NY Times signals Kamala that her White House ambitions are hopeless
By Thomas Lifson

In the old days of the USSR, Kremlinologists used to figure out who was in and who was out in the power struggles at the top by looking at the reviewing stand for the May Day military parades. Proximity to the leader was the criterion. With today’s Democrats, an equally shadowy gaggle of power-hungry operatives controlled by hidden hands, we must rely on signals coming from a few semi-official media organs, but preeminently the New York Times.

That’s why a major article in the big circulation Sunday edition of the Times on Kamala Harris is so interesting.

After an introduction with some sympathy for the vice president, feigning balance, came this slap in the face from “dozens” of anonymous party sources “including some who helped put her on the party’s 2020 ticket”:

But the painful reality for Ms. Harris is that in private conversations over the last few months, dozens of Democrats in the White House, on Capitol Hill and around the nation — including some who helped put her on the party’s 2020 ticket — said she had not risen to the challenge of proving herself as a future leader of the party, much less the country. Even some Democrats whom her own advisers referred reporters to for supportive quotes confided privately that they had lost hope in her.

Kamala Harris doesn’t even understand why she is unpopular
by Quin Hillyer, Commentary Writer |

To read Monday’s New York Times story on the political struggles of Vice President Kamala Harris is to see that neither Harris nor the establishment media have a clue about why she is unpopular.

The article defines the problem this way: “The painful reality for Ms. Harris is that in private conversations over the last few months, dozens of Democrats in the White House, on Capitol Hill and around the nation … said she had not risen to the challenge of proving herself as a future leader of the party, much less the country.”

With President Joe Biden being so old, the article explained, the public wants reassurance that the vice president can handle the top job if something happens to Biden. Yet her approval rating of just 39% trails even Biden’s anemic 42% approval rate. In sum, she further drags down an already weak ticket.

As the article continues, though, it becomes evident that neither Democratic insiders nor the journalists who cover them understand the nature of her problem. Numerous paragraphs lament “the unique dynamics of being a woman of color in a job previously filled only by men,” as if that is a major source of her difficulties. Oh, and the poor thing is also only 5 feet, 2 inches tall, which makes it hard to project leadership and means that office chairs need to be adjusted downward. (The horror!) ...

Harris’s problem isn’t that she’s too substantive. Her problems are that she’s usually not substantive at all, but when she is, her substance is god-awful.   ...

More Democrats leery about VP Kamala Harris: ‘Can’t think of one thing she’s done’

Even Vice President Kamala Harris’ supporters fear she hasn’t been able to define her leadership credentials as the 2024 election looms amid questions about President Biden’s age and ability to serve, with one Democrat remarking, “I can’t think of one thing she’s done,” according to a new report.

Harris made history in 2020 when she was elected the first black and first Asian American vice president, but has struggled while in office with frequent staff turnover — coupled with reports of a toxic office environment — along with frequent gaffes and “word salad” statements, and criticism of her work as the administration’s “border czar.”

As a result, some Democrats say that even in a historically low-profile office, Harris has failed to carve out a niche for herself, the New York Times reported.

The concerns have become more focused and the criticism more pointed as the 80-year-old Biden gears up for a re-election campaign — with the paper reporting that even Democrats to whom Harris’ advisers referred reporters for complimentary quotes are expressing exasperation. ...
She's accomplished absolutely nothing of value in any of the elective offices she's held.

If Joe runs for re-election - a big “if” in my mind - he will certainly jettison her from the ticket.

Kamala Harris is the personification of both affirmative action and political patronage, and her record is exquisitely emblematic of the consequences of both.

When Gavin Newsom told "aunt" Nancy that Schiff could run for senator in 2024, he conveyed that he is going after "the big ticket" in '24.

Either as the presidential candidate, or perhaps the VP to biden after kamala sutra is edged out...

Operation ‘Dump Kamala’ Is Officially On

Operation ‘Dump Kamala’ Is Officially On

I like to say that I read the New York Times so that you don’t have to (plus I can claim an online subscription as a tax deduction, which helps), but today is one of those days you wish you had a subscription for the amazing “news” feature on the dismal future prospects of Kamala Harris. Here’s the hed:

The resulting article is stunning in its negative portrayal of Harris:

But the painful reality for Ms. Harris is that in private conversations over the last few months, dozens of Democrats in the White House, on Capitol Hill and around the nation — including some who helped put her on the party’s 2020 ticket — said she had not risen to the challenge of proving herself as a future leader of the party, much less the country. Even some Democrats whom her own advisers referred reporters to for supportive quotes confided privately that they had lost hope in her.

Through much of the fall, a quiet panic set in among key Democrats about what would happen if President Biden opted not to run for a second term. Most Democrats interviewed, who insisted on anonymity to avoid alienating the White House, said flatly that they did not think Ms. Harris could win the presidency in 2024. Some said the party’s biggest challenge would be finding a way to sideline her without inflaming key Democratic constituencies that would take offense.

Now with Mr. Biden appearing all but certain to run again, the concern over Ms. Harris has shifted to whether she will be a political liability for the ticket.

I imagine Dan Quayle and the ghost of Spiro Agnew are smiling right now.

Poor kamala sutra.

Reminds me of a Bob Dylan song (that was never released on an "official" album):
"I'd hate to be you on that dreadful day"
