Speculation has been rampant that Bezos is interested in buying the Washington Commanders from its current owner, Dan Snyder. However, Snyder is allegedly unwilling to sell to Bezos while he still owns the Washington Post.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly looking for a way to purchase the Washington Commanders NFL team by selling the Washington Post.

The news outlet announced last month during a tense town hall meeting that it would be laying off employees in early 2023, which began speculation that Bezos would be looking to sell, according to a report by the New York Post.

Speculation has been rampant amongst investors in the nation's capital that Bezos is interested in buying the Commanders from its current embattled owner, Dan Snyder. However, Snyder is allegedly unwilling to sell to Bezos while he still owns the Washington Post.

Snyder is reportedly very unhappy with how he has been reported in the Washington Post, which had published a series of exposes in 2020 alleging a toxic management culture at the team. ...

The NFL is desperate to get Dan Snyder out of football, so to expedite this sale, they'll grease whatever skids need greasing.

I support it wholeheartedly if Bezos promises to change the name of the team back to Deadskins, er, Redskins.

...  Last week, the Amazon founder fueled even more fears of additional layoffs when he visited the WaPo newsroom in what was described by The Post as somewhat “awkward.” But that said, a source familiar with the situation told the WaPo’s top leadership in private meetings that Bezos wasn’t looking to sell the paper.

But that said, “one logical suitor” is sure that the WaPo is for sale and will be making a bid for the paper, according to a source who would not identify the suitor, The Post noted. A second source who engages in the purchase and sale of newspapers also has heard rumblings that the WaPo may be on the sale block.  ...

Bezos bought the paper in 2013 at the request of then-owner Donald Graham. Initially, the paper expanded rapidly, adding staff and coverage and boosting online subscriptions. But it is on track to lose money in 2022 after readership waned and after losing 500,000 subscribers after former President Donald Trump left office.
