My son got into the Navy about 20 years ago because he had been off meds for more than 2 years. He went into aviation electronics, serving aboard an amphibious assault ship. After separation, he went to college and graduated with honors though, in high school, he had managed to get just above a 2.0 GPA. He was accepted to OCS and resigned his commission as a Lt. so I'm glad to see this change. I taught ADHD and severely emotionally disturbed teenagers, so I have lots of background working with ADHD. They tend to think in pictures, mostly right brained. As an example, I used to ask students what came to mind when I said the word road. The usual responses were like: a double yellow line, or black road surfaces, a dashed white line, or cement, etc. Those are pictures. In all my years, only one student gave me a left brained response: that's how you get from one point to another. If people understand how they think and how to use those skills, people with ADHD can be quite successful.
