Big star, didn't know her work though much beyond Three's Company.

Always came across like she had a good heart and a decent person. And while yes she was smokin' hot even in her later years, she had an abundance of energy, charisma, and personality that really made her attractive. RIP ma'am.

@Wingnut

extra credit if you recall either or both the movie and the car

(T-Bird, American Graffiti)

1957 Thunderbird @Gefn  But nobody was looking at the car!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Um, we women were.  happy77
You're everywhere I go, I am not alone
You call me as Your own to know You and be known.
You are holy!
And I fall down on my knees.
I can feel Your presence here with me.
Suddenly I'm lost within Your beauty,
Caught up in the wonder of Your touch.
Here in this moment I surrender to Your love.

Country musician Buck Trent dies at 85
You likely recognize Trent from appearing on countless country variety shows in the late 20th century, including a long run on Hee Haw.

Somers' husband of 46 years, Alan Hamel, is 87. He did some work in Canadian TV, but I mainly remember him from his 1970s TV ads for the Alpha Beta chain of grocery stores. 46 years is a good run.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Burt Young, ‘Rocky’ star, dead at 83

By Erin Keller and Michael Blinn
Published Oct. 18, 2023

Burt Young, the actor best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as Sylvester Stallone’s sidekick in “Rocky,” has reportedly died.

He was 83.

His death was confirmed Wednesday by his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, according to The New York Times.

The Post has contacted a rep for Young for comment.

Young’s breakout role as Paulie Pennino in “Rocky” — playing the titular boxer’s best friend and brother of his love interest — came as one of the movie’s more veteran actors at the time.

World's oldest dog ever dies - as owner reveals secret to his long life

Quote

The world's oldest dog has died at the age of 31.

Born on 11 May 1992, Bobi was recognised by Guinness World Records as the oldest dog ever in February.

The purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo broke a record held by Australian cattle-dog Bluey, who died at 29 years and five months in 1939.

I know. She was 26 at that time, and a total smoke show.  One of the greatest minor roles in cinematic history. All she had to be was desirable, and inaccessible. The perfect nighttime angel. RIP.

Richard Roundtree, Suave Star of ‘Shaft,’ Dies at 81

Quote

Richard Roundtree, the ultracool actor who helped open the door to a generation of Black filmmakers and performers with his portrayal of private eye John Shaft, “the cat that won’t cop out when there’s danger all about,” died Tuesday. He was 81.

Roundtree died at his home in Los Angeles of pancreatic cancer, his manager, Patrick McMinn, told The Hollywood Reporter.

He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 and had a double mastectomy. “Breast cancer is not gender specific,” he said four years later. “And men have this cavalier attitude about health issues. I got such positive feedback because I spoke out about it, and it’s been quite a number of years now. I’m a survivor.”

Former PIX11 journalist Arnold Diaz dies at 74

Quote
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Arnold Diaz, a former reporter for PIX11 News whose “What a Shame!” reports exposed wrongdoing by private industry and government agencies, has died at age 74.

Diaz, who was born in Brooklyn, won 48 Emmy Awards for his reporting throughout his career that spanned decades. Over the years, Diaz’s “Shame” reports led to action by law enforcement and have been cited by prosecutors as being instrumental in putting scam artists behind bars.

Diaz retired last year after being with PIX11 News since 2014. At the time, Diaz said he would miss the excitement of the job, but he wouldn’t miss the times he was “shoved, spit at and threatened with guns” over his reporting.

Of the ones who stayed more than one season, it's down to John and Marsha Warfield.

(Though Karen Austin and Ellen Foley, one season each, are both still alive.)

Likely pain killers, sadly.

@Jack Russell

The trouble with  narcotics is that the more you use  them, the less well they  work. Unfortunately, too many  people who have demanding jobs like executives,tv stars, etc, etc, etc start taking them because they HAVE to "be at work at 7 AM Tomorrow, ready to produce!"

This works fine until it doesn't. One day in the near future they all suddenly "discover" that the "2 pills I used to take to manage the pain well enough to get me through the day no longer work,so I now  have  to take 4 of the damn  things!"

Guess what happens next.

"Denial" is NOT just a river in Egypt.

I am one of the VERY lucky ones who managed to party my ass off for years, and only quit because thanks to the blackouts,I didn't know if I had been having any fun or not,but it became glaringly obvious from the nasty looks I was getting from people I only knew casually that I WAS pissing people off.

Even had one  guy stop to pick me up one day in his new van  while I was hitchiking (the company work truck  had broken down while I was on a trip to get parts for a asphalt spreader),and I honestly thought this guy was a friend of mine until I got in his new van and he told me "I didn't really want  to pick  you up,but I was afraid you would rip the side off my  new  van  if I didn't". Since the air temp was  in the upper 90's that day and the van had AC,I didn't ask him why. I just accepted the ride back to the construction site in silence.

A few more similar instances from people I THOUGHT were friendly convinced me that maybe I needed to back off from the alcohol and drugs just a tad,but it didn't take long for me to realize I have a "all or nothing" personality,so I just quit drugs, and while I was at it,I quit drinking and smoking, also.

AND.......,it was VERY easy for me to do.

I take ZERO credit for quitting because it was so easy, and I know plenty  of people, mostly alcoholics, that spend their entire lives drunk or trying to  sober up,and heard all their stories about "How I quit last month",only to see them loaded to the gills and incoherent 6 months  later.

I have not had the first urge to get loaded again, but quitting smoking was the tough one. I did it,but it wasn't easy. Everything else was "Ok,I quit!",and no big deal.

One of these days some geek working in a lab is going to discover a shot  or pill that alcoholics can take that instantly removes their desire to drink permanently, and he or she  will become the richest geek on the planet because  NOBODY wants to  be a drunk. NOBODY.

Coaching legend Bob Knight, famous for both victories and outbursts, dies at 83

Quote

He was brilliant. He was a bully. He coached some of the most perfectly disciplined basketball ever played, and then acted undisciplined in his own life.

He was an American original and a cultural touchstone with oversized impact, in ways good and, yes, sometimes less so.

You could say Bob Knight was a product of his time, but even half a century ago he pushed the edges of proper conduct; attempting, say, to beat down the door to the referee’s dressing room was frowned upon back in the 1970 NIT as well.

Complicated? They don't get much more complicated than Robert Montgomery Knight, one of the greatest coaches of all time. He combined a demanding will and a legendary temper to become as famous for his authoritarian outbursts as decades of dominance highlighted by three national college basketball titles.

Knight died on Wednesday at his home in Bloomington, Indiana after a lengthy illness, his family announced. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer was 83.

The book A Season on the Brink, about Indiana's 1985-86 season, certainly showed us who Bob Knight was - and I respected that.

RIP Mr. Perry, I enjoyed your work. Sad to say I'm not surprised because he has been battling addiction for years. I wonder what the autopsy will show.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Oh that's too bad.  I doubt Jimmy will last long after this.
They've both been under hospice care of some sort. I had the somewhat macabre thought the other day that it would be weird if they died the same day. I'm thinking Jimmy may live to 110, though.
