If it works, it isn't dumb.

But if it doesn't, you'll end up on the internet, for sure.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nah, back in the day when my kids were little and the world was saner it was " And don't think you won't get punished right here, I don't care what those people think". Of course that was before some meddling busy body could get you arrested for giving your kid a swat.

Not making excuses for Boomers, but fifty years ago they were just starting to encase the engine with all sorts of smog crap, hoses and wiring harnesses not too mention fuel injection instead of carburetors.

Yeah. About 20 years ago I showed my nephew the engine in my '41, a nice flathead 6.

He took one look at the single barrel carb topped with an oil bath air cleaner, and the naked (by today's) standards block, and said "Uncle Joe, where's the rest of the engine?"

I just replied, "Son, it's a '41. There was a war on. That's all you got. "

I remember a friend who had a 50s Chevy pickup with the same sort of engine set up - one could almost stand inside the engine compartment, feet on the ground, while the engine was running and not get injured.  Very simple.

This is what the engine compartment on my 63 Studebaker looked like, except mine was this clean, distributor with points, Carter AFB carb and everything easily accessible, oh yeah easy to adjust the valves on.

I had a boss who let me borrow his Studebaker Hawk while my vehicle was waiting on parts. It was a dream car...

I have had two 1963 Gran Turismo Hawks, both with the Avanti R1 engine, Power Shift transmission and Twin Traction. They were both hot or so I thought until one night on the 405 I was doing about 130 when an Avanti R2 rolled by at 140+. Those were fun days before the freeway got so crowded.

This one had the 360 engine, but also had a broken motor mount. Just anything more than a very light touch caused the engine to 'roll' just enough to accelerate even more, and I laid rubber across a couple of intersections before I got the touch just right. Wonderful car, and every bit as much a 'chick magnet' as my Harley was.

I remember when they first started the smog crap in California and I had to have a perfectly good radiator hose cut and a thermal delay switch installed and plumbed to my vacuum advance, then they adjusted my carb to run like shit and pot a green silicone 'seal' on the idle screws. First thing we did was shove a BB in the vac hose and then readjusted the carb and re 'sealed' the idle screws with the left over tube of green silicone they left with us. :silly:
Oh did I say it was the garage mechanic who installed the crappy NOx device who said "If it were me as soon as I passed inspection I would...."

Yeah... All that crap don't amount to a row of pins... I like a nice little flat top 350 Chevy with a little bit of cam... And I still think a well tuned simple system does better than one with all that crap on it... MAYBE it has less emissions when running perfectly, but the systems become so complicated that the whole thing running perfectly becomes less and less likely. And nothing throws emissions like a motor that's out of whack.

The people who want to get naked are the very people you never want to see naked, almost every time.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
