I doubted Trump during his campaign because of his character and his verbal insults towards others; especially Cruz. He jumped into the race as soon as Cruz announced he was running. He took down his GOP opponents one by one and was unmerciful in his attacks. Yet after he became the nominee he was very soft on Hillary. That threw up a red flag.
Before he became the nominee, he met with McConnell and after meeting with him he announced something to the effect that he needed to be a little more establishment. That threw up a red flag. He also stated that Mitch needs to go yet contributed to his campaign. Granted the $$ was not a significant amount, but nonetheless that threw up a red flag.
He had a super majority, yet waited till a few days before the mid terms to start pushing for a border fence. That threw up a red flag. Consequently the DEMS took the House majority and consequently the border wall was never completed.
He proclaimed with Bible in hand that he would stop the insurrection that occurred after the Floyd murder, yet he did nothing. That threw up a red flag.
There are other things that he did that I couldn't give him a free pas on, that threw up red flags, but these come immediately to mind.
I believe that Trump was a good president and certainly took this country in a positive direction.
There are numerous articles and claims that the GOP lost the midterms because of Trump. I'm not sure that there is any validity to those claims.
However, Trump insulting conservative governors has been on full display. There is no denying that.
I can't support someone who purposefully degrades the accomplishments and victories of conservatives. That is the opposite of what I believe in. I see Trump's actions as fracturing the party and harming chances of a conservative being seated in '24. Either his ego has gotten the best of him or he's now catering to the GOPe to get them to back him in '24. Neither is acceptable.
With all the red flags in the past and his current bullying I won't vote for him in the future. I still think it is a possibility that he may not run.
Yes, DeSantis has won re-election. I applaud him and he is extremely popular. However, I think it is important to continue to watch how his second term unfolds. No politician should be given a free pass.
I like DeSantis and am hopeful that we have a true conservative who possibly may run for President in '24.
