A $4.4 billion US destroyer was touted as one of the most advanced ships in the world. Take a look the USS Zumwalt, which experts now say is a 'failed ship concept.'

The Navy's three Zumwalt-class ships cost around $22.4 billion in research and development.

But one expert said that despite the expense, the Zumwalts are a "failed ship concept."

The USS Zumwalt was named after Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, the youngest Chief of Naval Operations in US history. The ship is a guided missile destroyer, which means that its main purpose is to provide anti-aircraft support to the US Navy's fleet.

The Gerald Ford has been a dud.  The LCS class is a dud.  The Zumwalt class is a dud.  This all points to some kind of systemic problem with the Navy, not the builders,  though I'm certain the Navy would deny it. :pondering: :pondering:

The LCS concept was a solution in search of a problem. It was designed, IMO, to to divert $$ from ships that did/could have a real-life purpose.
I am not and never have been a leftist.
