BORSTAR Rescues Undocumented Migrant in Distress
Release Date Fri, 06/03/2022 - 12:00
OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued an undocumented individual in the Jacumba Wilderness region Friday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Sector Communications notified El Centro station of a report they received regarding a lost migrant in distress and in need of assistance. Agents were notified of the distress call and provided with a phone number; they successfully contacted the distressed individual via telephone. Using the last known GPS coordinates provided, at approximately 7:19 a.m., El Centro Sector’s Border Search Trauma and Rescue Unit (BORSTAR) located the individual four miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. Agents conducted a wellness check of the individual and determined that no additional medical assistance was needed.

Agents determined that the distressed individual was left behind by a group that she was previously traveling with. Agents also verified that the 26-year-old woman was a citizen of Mexico who did not possess the required documents and legal status to be present in the United States. She was taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to begin processing for removal from the U.S.
