Not really.  Where's the moral outrage?  Where are the demands that these atrocities stop?   Where's the demand for UN investigations?  Where are the coordnated food drops into the city?

No one is bombing the people of Shanghai and a leader hasn't gone on national television begging for help from the U.S.

Nonetheless, people of Shanghai are being forced from their homes.

Any way you look at it, more chaos, violence and crimes against humanity.

Hmmm, last I heard, Shanghai wasn't an independent country that was illegally invaded by China.

The people are crying out (literally) for freedom.  Have we no moral imperative to help them ---- at least to survive?

I guess you think freedom is GIGO.

So, we should not get involved - not even to the point of supplying weapons - when one country - Russia - invades another country - Ukraine - without basis - but we should be, what, sending troops when the Chinese government forces Chinese residents from their homes in China?

In what part of the multiverse does that make any rational sense?

Please take the Ukraine talk to the Ukraine thread. This one's about the Covid crackdown in Shanghai.

This is very concerning and if people think that this can't happen in the good ole U.S.A. they're kidding themselves.  Those in 'power' here, also don't want COVID to end.

This same thing was done in Wuhan back in early 2020.  Our own shutdown model was based on theirs.  Just because we have moved on doesn't mean China hasn't.

Shanghai quarantine: 24-hour lights, no hot showers

eibei sleeps beside thousands of strangers in rows of cots in a high-ceilinged exhibition center. The lights stay on all night, and the 30-year-old real estate saleswoman has yet to find a hot shower.

Beibei and her husband were ordered into the massive National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai last Tuesday after spending 10 days isolated at home following a positive test. Their 2-year-old daughter, who was negative, went to her grandfather, while her nanny also went into quarantine.

Residents show “no obvious symptoms,” Beibei, who asked to be identified only by her given name, told The Associated Press in an interview by video phone.

“There are people coughing,” she said. “But I have no idea if they have laryngitis or omicron.”

The convention center, with 50,000 beds, is one of more than 100 quarantine facilities set up in China's most populous city for those such as Beibei who test positive but have few or no symptoms. It's part of official efforts to contain China’s biggest coronavirus outbreak since the 2-year-old pandemic began. But it's also testing patience of people increasingly fed up with China's harsh “zero-COVID” policy that aims to isolate every case.............

China's Covid policy locks down a city three times the size of New York

China’s latest wave of Covid restrictions has forced millions of people — roughly three times as many as live in New York City — to stay home and undergo mass virus testing in the metropolis of Shanghai.

As Covid cases began to spike in late February, Shanghai tried to control the outbreak with targeted, neighborhood lockdowns. But the city, a center for global transport, manufacturing, finance and trade, decided in late March to implement a two-stage lockdown that soon applied to all districts, generally forcing people not to leave their apartments.

Most people outside China know that Shanghai is big, but few realize just how big economically. The following numbers indicate the scale of Shanghai as an economic center — and may hint at the cost of the lockdown...............

The article posted above indicates the financial situation.  It is going to hurt both.  IMHO lockdowns are being done on purpose to control, just as was done in the U.S.  It will significantly impact or economy as well ... just as planned.

There's something to be said for U.S. renegotiating trade agreements and energy independence.  Let's Go Brandon!!
