Former generals warn of coup, civil war in ’24, call for military purge over fear troops may ‘follow the Trumpian loser’

Three Trump-obsessed former generals penned a conspiracy theory laden op-ed for The Washington Post late last week warning of a potential coup and civil war in 2024 unless certain steps are taken now to nullify the threat.

These steps include purging the military of those accused of wrongthink, making it “perfectly clear to every member” of America’s armed forces “whom they answer to” and prosecuting any Republican who challenged the 2020 presidential election results.

Written by retired U.S. Army Gen. Paul D. Eaton, retired U.S. Army Major Gen. Antonio M. Taguba and retired U.S. Army Brigadier Gen. Steven M. Anderson, the piece centers around the thesis that after Democrats win the 2024 election, Republicans will install a shadow government.

This shadow government, the generals claim, will be led by either former President Trump “or another Trumpian figure.”

“Imagine competing commanders in chief — a newly reelected Biden giving orders, versus Trump (or another Trumpian figure) issuing orders as the head of a shadow government. Worse, imagine politicians at the state and federal levels illegally installing a losing candidate as president,” the generals write.

“All service members take an oath to protect the U.S. Constitution. But in a contested election, with loyalties split, some might follow orders from the rightful commander in chief, while others might follow the Trumpian loser. Arms might not be secured depending on who was overseeing them. Under such a scenario, it is not outlandish to say a military breakdown could lead to civil war.”

With the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 incursion into the United States Capitol less than a month away, three retired Army generals  called on leaders to take preventive measures, including to “war game” a “post-election insurrection or coup” attempts.

“The potential for a total breakdown of the chain of command along partisan lines – from the top of the chain to squad level – is significant should another insurrection occur,” former Major Gen. Paul Eaton, former Brigadier Gen. Steven Anderson and former Major Gen. Antonio Tagubathe wrote in The Washington Post on Friday in an opinion column raising the disturbing prospect of the U.S. military training for a confrontation against fellow Americans.

The generals went on to write, “The idea of rogue units organizing among themselves to support the ‘rightful’ commander in chief cannot be dismissed.” ...

They recommended a number of steps the military should take, concluding with:

“Finally, the Defense Department should war-game the next potential post-election insurrection or coup attempt to identify weak spots. It must then conduct a top-down debrief of its findings and begin putting in place safeguards to prevent breakdowns not just in the military, but also in any agency that works hand in hand with the military. ... Purges and coups are instruments of political tyrants.

Three Retired Generals Loudly Demand A Military Coup In 2024

Democrats claim that democracy is under attack in America and Democrats must act decisively to protect it. They’ve been trying to end the filibuster, nationalize voting, and pack the Supreme Court. The most ominous “fix,” which hinges on the myth of a “January 6 Insurrection,” sees retired generals argue that the military must purge the ranks of Trump supporters and prepare for a military coup to block a future contested election. This is unconstitutional, illegal, and spells the end of American democracy.

Victor Davis Hanson notes that leftists are loudly worrying about democracy’s end while ignoring all they’ve done to end democracy, such as bringing in millions of illegal aliens, many of whom are being given the vote; destroying centuries-old governing traditions such as the filibuster; packing the court; ending the Electoral College; and more.

If Democrats can kill the Senate filibuster (and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is the only thing stopping them, not the craven Senator Mitch McConnell), they have the unfettered ability to enshrine vote fraud and pack the Supreme Court. The latter move spells the final—and deeply unconstitutional—progressive rewrite of our Constitution, and ends our constitutional republic.

This WPost op-ed by "3 retired Generals" - calling for the US military to turn its planning against the citizenry on domestic soil in the name of stopping "insurrection" and "misinformation" - is vastly more dangerous and anti-democratic than 1/6 itself.

Remember: **before 1/6**, the "US intelligence community" was claiming the greatest threat to the US Homeland is "domestic extremism." It's long been clear that this "Insurrection" narrative is so vital because it justifies any domestic powers in the name of stopping it.
